Just curious if anyone who owns a mini has given it a wash yet.
If so how easy is it to wash? Do you think it will be a pain to wax/polish?

Those who know use Zaino

Zaino is by far the greatest polish in the world, and if you have a new, or even an old car, I highly reccomend it!!!

A lot of people don't know about it, but the news is definatly spreading!

I have washed ours several times now and find it very easy to clean. In typical BMW fashion, the finish is of very good quality with a thick clearcoat. The 5 spoke 16" wheels on our Cooper are easy to clean and that is important considering how much brake dust the brake pads produce. The black plastic around the wheel wells needs to be maintained with armour-all type cleaner/shining product. As is the case with most hatchbacks, the rear end of the car gets dirty quickly on wet streets because of the airflow pattern behind the car. Plan on using the rear wiper!

What is "Zaino" and where can you get it?

I was just planning on waxing mine with airplane wax (trade secret from high-end car dealers), but you have to get it at a little private airport shop and pay a lot for it.

Zaino is a system.
There are several parts to it so cost wise the price is a little high.
But... the pay off is..... a Great! (99% clairity) finish that lasts for MONTHS... not weeks like most waxes. Their website is here.
This product is very highly recomended by top detailers across the country.

There are some others that work really well also.... Klasse is from what I understand great. McGuires is very highly touted as an off the shelf type system too.
If you try it out, let me know what you think.

I have a question about using the Zaino (or any polishing product) on a brand-spanking-new car... is there a "waiting period" or is it safe to polish it within the first week? Any thoughts? Thanks again!

There is really no need to wait. By the time you see your car the paint should be well cured. I've talked with several pro detailers who when buying a car ask that the dealer leave all transport plastic in tact. This way they can detail the car the way it should be done. My MINI will be delivered with plastic still on it.
I can't tell you how many times I've gone to a new car lot and seen swirls on new cars. My current car had swirls when It was delivered to me. Also a nice burn mark in the paint!! errr. Never again.
To answer your question. The dealer will do it in prep........ unless you beg them not to. If you paid for the paint protection...... There's no need to throw it away. Wait a while. Then do it.
Hope this helps.
SW

edit: You will also find tips on Zaino's site. You should read what they have to say.

Not a problem.
Glad I could be of help. I think you will really enjoy the satisfaction of doing it yourself for the first time. Kind of like bonding..... just with your car.
And yes that is a great finish. I'm going to replace that pic in just a few min. with one of equal beauty. Let me know what you think.

I'm sorry about your keyed car. You're right... never mess with a mans car! Never.

People have zero respect for other peoples stuff anymore. Very sad.

Oh god! I hope it wasn't your MINI that got keyed! Please say it ain't so! I guess there are always those that spite others' happiness and are out to ruin it for anyone just to make themselves feel better (or more miserable). I sure hope there isn't a group out there just after the MINI owners- jealous of what they can't have and will never fully appreciate the spirit the MINI encompasses.

I wash mine with window washer liquid, then spray it with some new stuff called Eagle One Wax as U Dry, it's the best Ive ever used and I've been polishing cars for over 50 years. All that other polish and rub stuff is outa here!
I have a yellow with white roof and 17'' wheels... GGGRRRREAAAATTTT! You don't have to use Armoral or any of that other junk...Try it you'll love it. Right over the plastic...No swirls.. No peanut butter. And best of all!!! NO JELLY! Really! I had problems with swirls and with the black plastic going white until I found this Eagle 1 liquid. It is excellent, and I don't work for them. If you use Zaino - make sure to get the Zaino z7 car wash - it is awesome and keeps the car sleek and smooth - i've noticed other car wash types make the surface a bit tacky....same with the quick detailers...use z6...alot of other types have wax and oils in them that should not be put on top of zaino.

I pick up my S tommorow morning...dealer is under orders to not detail and only wash if it is by hand.

Sunday morning I plan on washing with dawn, zaino clay, wash with dawn, wash with z7, then apply 3 coats of z2 with zfx using z6 quick detailer between applications...should give a great shine.

Well I have my car, I have zaino'ed her...and DAMN does it look wonderful....waiting on a digital camera then I'll get some pics.

Word of advice though - after you polish and you quick detail...don't leave towels on the bonnet...they won't stick...smooth and slick.

Plus with the zaino on her you will be amazed how much easier it is to keep your MINI clean. z6 and a mf towel and wow looks awesome...though i do admit I prefer washing her with z7 as the shine only gets better!!

Tried Zaino and Meguiars. Zaino is the way to go. While I'm waiting for my MCS, I decided to treat my "Old Reliable" (98 Corolla) to a Zaino's shine. The car NEVER looked better (even with the odd dings and scratches). It took a lot of elbow grease but it was well worth it.

The neighbors (and my parents) thought I was nuts until they saw the results.

.....soooo shiny.....
