How is spinning a disk at a high rpm safer than using a MF towel?

I think the opposite would be true, if you got a tiny grain of sand sized particle under your powertool, you'd introduce a TON of scratches before you would know it.

1.) A tiny particle in your MF will do just as much damage by hand
2.) It's not spinning it's oscillating in a random orbital pattern
3.) The uneven pressure that you apply to a towel against your paint by hand (fingers pressing through towel) versus even 6" diameter pressure offers less potential for causing scratches.
4.) It goes without saying---anytime you detail a car, you pay attention to what you are doing. You don't use MF towels that you dropped on the floor to wipe your car down. You inspect your paint before and during your detailing.

Finally, until you've tried a PC, you really can't imagine how safe it is. We can argue this to death, but until you've tried it both ways, all we can talk about is potential, and the potential to do more harm than good by hand is real.

Tradiuz, why don't you post some pictures of your Zaino'd MINI under direct sunlight like how I posted below and show me how good your finish looks? I'm not talking about the mirrored reflection, but I'm talking about how swirl free it is, unless you've got a Pepper White or Pure Silver which hides everything!

the detailers here at work use towels only, they are not big on the orbital except for really bad trades that need a quick buff for the auction!!!

Here is a shot and closeup of my hood. I clayed, 1 coat of Z5, 6 coats of Z2 over 3 months, and this is even now on 3 weeks without a wash, just rain. SLICK as snot right now, you can throw a rag on the hood and it slides off. The big bumps and couple streaks you see are just dirt/bugs. Swirl-free, all done by hand very easily, looks and feels perfect. Love my Zaino!

That's a nice finish!

Mine's black/black and a magnet for swirls. I used only carauba wax and quick detailers so far, but when my carnauba runs out, I'm going Zaino or Klasse.

Every MINI website seems to be overwhelmingly for the polymer stuff, mostly Zaino. Strange, most of the other (classic) British car websites I surf don't use polymers as much. And, these guys really know their stuff about paints and detailing.

Anyway, I'm now convinced on the polymers. Seems like a win-win to me.

lol... well brad, it seems you have to come to the rescue. I would chime in a bit more, but I haven't even picked up the pads for my PC yet, so using NXT with a pad of unkown agressiveness is a no go for me.

i'm off to ordering zaino though.

Nice job Kaelari--too bad Electric Blue doesn't show swirls as readily as something darker like Indi Blue or Black, but good job nevertheless.

Too bad you don't know your colors - it's Hyper Blue. There are no swirls to show.

OctaneGuy-
You say though that nxt gets rid of the swirl marks, but it's not a rubbing compound? Then wouldn't it just cover them up, if I had swirls I would get them out, not just cover them up.

kaelaria-
How do you apply and buff off Zaino or any other wax in fifteen minutes? Do you use the Flash Accelerator, or just live in a non-humid climate, up hear in Indiana, even after 24 hours it's so humid the wax hasn't cured yet!

^Anyone have tips to help this?^

MIKEY!

Hey Kaelaria-

Wow that hyper blue looks light on my monitor--I stand corrected then, good job.

ChiliCooperS- I believe NXT Tech Wax, like many of Meguiars cleaner/polishes contains diminishing abrasives, but I suppose it depends on how you define a rubbing compound. If you consider ScratchX a rubbing compound which is used specifically to remove minor clear coat scratches, then I don't consider NXT Tech Wax a rubbing compound which is primarily a synthetic polymer wax that when used in conjunction with a PC has the ability to remove swirls and light scratches.

I'm really not sure how you could "cover" up a scratch? You mean like fill it in? You should remember that when you're using a PC (Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher) with a foam pad, you are buffing the clear coat and smoothing down microns of clear coat. Using NXT by hand won't get out those swirls, but using it in conjunction with a PC, will.

The whole point of my posts in this thread has been that using NXT with a PC keeps your finish looking show car ready all the time, and allows you to ensure even wax coverage without introducing any additional potentials for causing more damage to your paint which can sometimes happen by hand.

I don't know anyone that applies Zaino with a PC. Before I got my stash of Microfiber towels, I used 100% Terrys and I thought I was using the best stuff until I kept noticing scratches in my clear coat. Zaino made it look slick--easily testing by dropping a terry on it and watching it slide off, but it just took time for doing multiple coats, and I have to order it by mail.

Yes I use the accelerator. By the time I've finished the car, I can go back and where I started has fully dried, comes right off with a microfiber. I use 5 drops per 1/2 bottle, works great.

Thank you.

Yeah you have to order your Zaino by internet, big deal...about once a year. It's clear you like the Meguires, that's cool. But don't try to reach and make stuff up against Zaino, it just doesn't wash. By the way, what store can I pick up a set of Vacucams from again? Oh that's right, I 'have to order it by mail' .

I did 3 coats when I picked the car up, and do one coat of Z2 a month. That's all it takes. It stays slick all the time, and washing is abreeze, cause not much sticks in the first place. With Zaino I'm also not teathered to an electrical outlet - I go to a local wash center where I have a roof and great lights, covered from the sun. Not everyone has a garage they can turn into a detail center when they need to. Having to use a power buffer would suck for me!

....and that's because you love your car, not because you have to.

I do the two/three coats a year and touch up with an extra coat maybe once every six months. I maintain the slickness easily by washing with Z7 shampoo and QD'ing with either Z6 or Z8.

Spectacular results. Low, low maintenance.

Kaelaria,

Please quote me where I made something up about Zaino????

As far as my VacuCams, that's different. You buy one and you're done. You don't run out of VacuCams. That's really your problem, is you stretch everything I say and this isn't the first time you've done that here on NAM.

I never said you had to use NXT with a PC, I just said it's one way of doing it and most people find it's a fun, safe way to detail their MINI.

No, I'm not. you came into this thread - about Zaino by the way, and not only started attacking everyone's reasons why we love it, pushing your choice of products, but got un necessarily sarchastic with me in a reply: "too bad Electric Blue doesn't show swirls as readily as something darker like Indi Blue or Black" implying I don't know what I'm doing, once again diminishing the merits of a post for no good reason. Funny, how when I do the EXACT same thing back to you: "Too bad you don't know your colors - it's Hyper Blue", I get a nasty gram from the Admin here.

Bah ya know what it's not even worth it...I see how things work around here as to many people I'm sure. Maybe I should just start reporting threads too.

Actually the thread began as a comparison to NXT, so I don't feel like I did anything wrong by showing what NXT can do.

I made a post asking about Zainos capability by showing a 1960 Corvette that I recently buffed out using NXT. You came back trying to say that I was misleading people and that was part of a Meguiars thing using a whole bunch of products.

I corrected you by saying that I was there doing the buffing and videoing and taking of those pictures.

Some people jumped on me for suggesting to use a PC on their MINI's, but everything was fine, atleast professional, between all the posters except for you. You brought on the sarcasm in the first place.

I asked Tradiuz to post some pix about his finish since he was so concerned about a machine polish and you replied by posting your own. Do you always do that??

I've refrained from making any of this personal, and I even apologized for my mistake in colors--although it did look like electric blue on my desktop--you never clarified that until after I made the assumption.

Where the problems really began was when you suggested I get a commission from Meguiars. Then you talk about NXT as a repair compound in the same post further spreading misinformation. If you read my reply, I asked if it was inappropriate for me to be as passionate about NXT as you were about Zaino??? You never replied.

And please show me where I attacked ANYONE about their choice of Zaino??

Anyhow, this is my final post on this---no one needs to see the banter back in forth on this.
