Plastic Trim is Grey and Streaky after Ceramic Coating
Plastic Trim is Grey and Streaky after Ceramic Coating
Apologies ahead of time if this has already been addressed. I searched through here and didn't see related posts that specifically address plastic trim issues caused by ceramic coating application.
Over the summer I had my 5 year old hardtop coated in SystemX graphene coating. The paint work came out great, but the installer did a number on the plastic fenders and it looks AWFUL. Installer claims that he didn't realize there had previously been product (Back to Black) used on the fender and thus the ceramic coating didn't apply properly. Totally on him because that shouldn't have been an issue if he had properly prepped, right? The plastic is grey and ashy with streaks and spots all over. Definitely worse than before anything was applied. At work now, but I will post photos when I get home.
Nothing I have tried so far has touched it. It is repelling any product I've tried in terms of removal attempts. Heat gun had no effect either.
Does anyone have any experience in removing ceramic coating applied to the plastic fenders?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Contact Richard. He and his dad invented Black Wow and he used to be a regular contributor on NAM. I'll bet he can walk you through it.

Try to have a civil conversation with your installer. If you approach him in a positive manner he may be more willing to help you. Anger and frustration will get you nowhere, although I know you are both angry and frustrated. I definitely would be.

Also, if you've got the time and temperament to fuss with it yourself after this recent experience, Griot's Garage has everything a detailer needs (been using their stuff for 14 years and love it). Their website has video demos for almost all their products for pre shopping intelligence gathering.
Did the “installer lol” point this issue out to you when you picked the car up, or was he a dirtbag and wait until you found out for yourself when you got home. If I were a “professional”…”installer”…I would never send my customer home with that mess, and I would also have a course of action to correct it. I hope you and your “installer” figure it out. Kinda silly for him to “assume” that you never put any type off sealant, or dressing on that, before he worked his magic. Worse thing you could do is start globbing more products on there. Find the correct process, if there is one.
