Does anyone know where I can get reputable touch up paint? Melting silver paint isn't available in the US. Apparently my car is super rare. The scratches right down to the bare metal so I'm trying to fix this as fast as possible before it rusts. Right in the middle of the driver door
the web site for the paint has a 'how to' section .... I've done this plenty and have experience in body work and full vehicle painting .... here's some tips .....
- the paint is a two part system consisting of a base coat that has the color and a top coat of clear. The base is 'weak' and dull without the clear .. so order BOTH.
- Most t/up in bottles will have a brush built into the bottle CAP .... NEVER let this get near your car! I only use the cap brush to transfer paint from the bottle to a 'pallet' ... a glossy business card is what I use most often.
- Go to a decent art supply / craft store and buy a good quality VERY FINE paint brush .... I use a 000 most of the time. You have much more control with a small brush .....
- multiple thin coats are MUCH better than one thick coat when applying the base/color .... then with the clear you don't want to build up higher then the surrounding ....
- making this 'go away' if you've never done this type of thing is gonna be unlikely ... but you can probably get it to 10 foot test quality ....
- if you have bare metal you want to apply primer first .... nothing special about primer ... get that small brush (and some thinner / spirits / brush cleaner) and prime that bare metal b4 rust sets in. Nothing wrong with a lil rustoleam red primer! You may want to thin it with some spirits.
