Dealer emblem removal help request
Does anyone out there have experience removing these things. I don't know why they have to put them on. I do know why but it still pisses me off. It's like a blemish to me.
I'm sure they've done their best to make it permanent but I have to see what I can do.
I'm thinking of taking it to a bodyshop but anticipate the following answer. "We can try to take it off but no guarantees as to what the finish will look like in that spot after."
Anyone's take on the issue would be much appreciated. Thanks.
No picture, but it's about a 2" disc right under the Cooper S logo on the hatch.

well if it's glued on, and it probably will be since it was applied at the dealer's, you'll need a heat gun or blow dryer, fishing line or good strong dental floss, possibly a razor blade, some solvent, and a some wax. What you'll want to do is heat up that emblem as you apply the fishing line behind and slide it behind the badging. You'll be cutting/scraping the glue off the emblem/car as you're doing this. With enough time and patience it should come off easily, the more heat you apply the easier the glue will come off. Once you have removed the badge and there is still some glue left, you can either use the solvent to take off the rest of the glue, you can try rubbing it with a terri cloth or your finger or you can use the razor to scrape the rest off. I suggest trying to use your finger first then the cloth, or as a last resort, the solvent or a razor. If you're using the solvent try not to use something too abrasive or strong, you may want to use bug/tar remover for cars, windex and lots of rubbing with a terri cloth or an old cotton sock, and i know some detailers that say hand gun cleaner works really well. If you use a solvent do not leave it on the surface too long, especially if you're using the gun cleaner. You'll want to rinse and clean that area after and then wax and buff it.
There are no guarantees on the finish directly underneath the badge, you may see a bit of a "shadow" that is left behind, a dull area that looks like it's missing a layer of clear coat. It will depend solely on what kind of adhesive they used to apply the badge. Good luck and lemme know how it works out for you.

Turns out it was just a rubbery sticker that peeled off with no ill effects. I peeled it off real slow and the adhesive stayed on the sticker leaving a squeaky clean finish.
Thanks for all the input.

I really don't care, if it's just a car.. (like my 90 chevy cav.), but on a MINI... keep that darn thing off of there... If you ask your dealer nicely (or if that doesn't work, forcefully) they'll probally leave it off for you. The gal I talked to at Towne MINI said she'd put 'NO DEALER LOGO" in big letter on my invoice... and that she wouldn't want one either...
sooo.. make sure to tell em before it comes in....

The last new car purchase I made (My Prelude).... I asked them If I would be compensated for the ad on the back of my car. When they said no, I asked them politely to remove it.
As for taking them off.... Most are not that hard to take off. I peeled one off of a car I had once before. There was some adhesive left but was no match for the "greased lightning".
Note: If you do use something this strong on your paint you must be very careful. Washing that area very good is a must. Then a good coat of wax is in order.

Make sure to put wax over the area that the dealer badge was on... Sometimes they slap the badge on and don't wax underneath it...
I have debadged A TON of cars, and none of them have come out poorly as long as you go slow and wax the spot where the sticker/badge used to be!
Hope that helps!

Personally I think that if the dealer really cares about you as a customer then they aren't going to put on a sticker... My dealer put on a license plate holder which I think is a lot more reasonable. I was pretty happy with my dealer so I'll leave it on for a little while until I find something else I want to replace it with.
I haven't tried it on a painted section but to take the airbag sticker off I first peeled it off and then used some WD40 to get the sticky residue off. Then I used a little Isopropol Alcohol (rubbing alcohol you can get at a drug store) which made it shine and really cleaned it up nice.

I always have had luck just peeling it off with my finger tips.. I use mineral spirits. Drip it behind the logo and it will come off quickly. Mineral spirits will not damage the paint... We use it all the time on RVs in the Arizona sun.

I think the dealership should pay you each month to advertise for them!
