Plastic Door Edge Protectors: Safe for Paint?

I have a question about those strips of plastic that you can put on the edge of the door to protect them if you accidentally bump the door into something when opening.

Are they safe for paint? I ask because it seems they might trap moisture inside and who knows what that would do over time. On my VO F56, I just put them on the entire edge of the doors and am now thinking if I should just put a short strip on the part of the door that would actually bang into something.

Thanks in advance.

3M and others make a door edge film that looks better.

Thanks, but the looks don't bother me. I'm more worried about the paint underneath.

I put on a clear strip but it is plastic (not tape like 3m) so it is sort of visible.

In fact, I'm thinking about changing it to black, which I think would look good with the VO.

The tape if properly applied won't allow water to be trapped behind it. I don't think the other edge guards are a problem either.
