It's both. The wax also doesn't seem to last very long so you should follow up with a carnauba.

Instead, I am trying the new Meguiar's NXT polymer at the moment. It goes on and buffs off very easily. The car looks fantastic afterward. Now I just have to see how long it will last.

It is a low durability carnauba wax with solvent and mechanical (abrasive) cleaners in it. You don't have to top it with anything else, but you will find it's beading and protective qualities diminish rather rapidly. When this happens simply rewax. It will be easier the second time around.

No. Not that simple. You can't top a carnauba system (Zymol) with a polymer based system (NXT). The polymer won't bond on top of the carnauba and will simply wash off/degrade just as fast as the carnauba since it's floating on top of it. It will also streak and mix badly.

If you want to use the NXT because it is more durable than the carnauba then you will need to completely strip off the carnauba and apply the NXT to the bare paint. You can strip the carnauba by washing the car thoroughly with a bucket of water and a capful of Dawn dishwashing liquid detergent. This is paint safe but strong enough to strip old waxes. Do not use this on a regular basis, obviously.

I use the Zymol cleaner wax too. I like the fact that it has natural ingredients. Smells good too! One question - is there a limit as to how often it should be used??? I know it has some type of abrasive? Is that why it is a "cleaner" wax?

Yes, that's why it's called a "cleaner" wax. The solvents and abrasives clean the dirt away. It's relatively mild, however, not like using a rubbing compound or anything. You can use it every month with no worries.

You can put a pure carnuba wax over top of a synthetic, but, as Brad mentioned above, you will have bonding problems putting a synthetic over a wax. Make sure to do a wash with Dawn before applying any polymer coating (Zaino, Klasse, NXT Tech Wax) to remove any wax from the car.

I've never heard of anyone topping NXT with a pure carnuba though... I don't know why. You usually hear them talk of topping Klasse or Zaino (as I do). By doing this, I hope to get the best of both worlds... the durability and shine of Zaino (polymer) and the richness of the natural carnuba wax.

If you do decide to top a polymer with a wax, I wouldn't use your cleaner wax. The abrasives and solvents in there might strip away the underlying polymer coat, negating its effect.

If you are looking for something simple, I'd go for the NXT Tech Wax. They also sell a spray 'booster wax' product for post-wash touch-ups. They also sell a car wash detergent that has gotten good reviews here... Remember to wash with a specialty car wash detergent... Your dishwashing soap (what my Dad always used) strips your nice fresh coat of wax right off the car. I've never used any of the NXT products... just seen good results posted here.
