Dings!

Nobody likes dings and I just got a dime sized one on the roof. I called a dent removal company and they wanted $300 and when I said that was ridiculous he lowered his price to $200, still too much.

I told him to forget it and I'd try and fix it myself with a slide bar and pull it out using the hot glue method. My question for you all is; Have you used the DIY approach to dings and had success that you were happy with?

Door dings, or any kind of ding on any of my cars drives me nuts. Please share your thoughts or stories.

Personally, I'd take his offer of $200. You're paying for his time and expertise. You might be successful but, OTOH, you might screw up and do more damage than just the ding.

I had a guy come to my house and work out 2 quarter size and 2 nickle size dents, $185.00 . Worth every penny I paid him. He had a dozen different size tools along with a torch, special glue and some pop-rivet type things/tools. I can build a house from scratch doing everything but the HVAC work. I can fix a whole lotta of things on my Mini but I will not touch sheet metal repair on my car.

I think it was Dirty Harry that said "A man's gotta know his limitation." Paintless Dent Repair is beyond mine.

The guy I used charged me $50 to remove a dent on the hood and he did a walk around the car and did two other ones I didn't notice. If you are near Portland I'll get you his number. Magic!

Btw he told me that bmw Mini metal is easy to work.

I found a local guy in southern CA who did about 8 door dings for me for $250! he said with that many dings and all 4 panels, he gave me a "deal" and charged by panels, and each panel was $85. i originally thought that was steep, but it looks great and brand new now! $200 for all those eye sores to be gone? yes please! My 2002 is looking brand new. He had some metal crow bar like things, went in between the panels through the window grooves and gas cap.

I love to hear success stories, congrats on your dingless whip. Somebody got me real good last week I almost couldn't believe how deep this MF'er dinged my passenger door, it looked like this idiot used two feet and kicked it into my door with full force. Every time I see it makes me cringe.

From another perspective. Those wee rock chips on the front of the bonnet. I bought one of those perfect job touch up kits. Sent them the paint code and year/month of build and they sent me the perfect solution. I got everything cleaned up ready for the job. Tested it on one small chip and took a beer break. Came back to examine the miracle. It looked like someone dabbed some paint on the front of the bonnet. Wast of time and money except for the beer.
