Teflon treatment

My new mini is due to arrive in about 2 weeks, and the dealer is trying to sell me a $500.00 Simonize teflon treatment for the car that is supposed to be guarranteed against love bugs, sap, and bird droppings for 5 years. I cannot find out anything on the web about it. Does anyone have any experience with this, and whether or not it is worth it.....since the car has such a great paint job and clear coat already and will be pampered after she arrives. Thanks.

It only sounds like a good deal if your dealer will come to your driveway to remove bugs, sap, and bird poop on a daily basis for the next 5 years.

Probably not a good investment for anyone but the dealer. Especially considering that if you ever waxed the car, the magic coating would be covered up.

Bugs, sap, and bird poop require nothing more than a little elbow grease. I am a distributer for a very high quality elbow grease and I sell it for $300 (a $200 savings over the Simonize Teflon magic forcefield)

But seriously, that $500 will go a LONG way toward purchasing all the top quality car-care products you will need to keep your MINI looking showroom fresh for years to come. . .

Welcome to NAM! You are going to have a blast when you take delivery of your new MINI!

I got the teflon coating thru Mini of Charleston (Rick Hendrick) and liked it because of the quaranty of 5 years if the paint gets damaged. They will repaint if they can not fix the problem, plus I got several free reapplications and they gave me a bottle of the stuff to apply myself. So I got coverage for at least three years.

I'd sooner take the $500 and get a good clear bra installed. I doubt your teflon guarantee protects you against rock chips. JMHO.

if you feel like you really need it, at least work them down to $100.

when my sister bought her celica, they tried to offer that to us, and when we said no the first time, they said "uhh... ok, how about if it was $200?". so if you push them, they will go lower.

also, i bet you could go even lower if you get it done at an independent place. I got something called "miracle shield" done for $160 and it has a lifetime guarantee. Maybe not same materials as simoniz, but if the paint gets crappy, they're fixing it. FOREVAR!

I'd love to show you my almost two year old car and point out that I really don't agree with your statement here.If I had to do it all over again ,I'd spring for the clear bra.Sighhhhhhhh

so basically, what people are telling you is this:

get some kind of treatment with some kind of warranty (lifetime if possible) and it better be less than $200.

then pay however much it costs to get the clearbra done, and feel alright about rockchips and such. until your windshield decides to be a lil bastid, and crack, but that's besides the point.

I had my paint treated,up here in the GWN,with long cold winters, cleaning the
car can be tough ,cause if you wash it it may freeze,no matter how much you dry it.Although if you do wash it at -30 it will stay clean for a long time as the
doors will freeze shut and you won't get in it

Thanks for the info. I think that I'll just use lots of NXT. Thanks again.

Thanks. If the stuff is so good, why did they have to reapply it?

Thanks. I'll probably go with Mequire's NXT and save $490.00.

The more I read, the more inclined I am to just use Mequire's NXT every month or so.
