I use currently use....Armor All Detailer's Advantage Protectant...
(you gotta luv the gpeole who come up w/ these names...lol)
It works fine... for me.
It's inexpensive and lasts...."a couple of few days "

I've tried many of the ones mentioned here..( including the peanutbutter . ).
Fine one that works for you ...and use it...

Peace,
D

Ah, copious replies! That's why I love NAM.

I think I'll start with the alcohol, since that's $0. Then I'll go from there.

Incidentally, it was Zymol Cleaner Wax that started this problem. I'm not really complaining, since it did a nice job on the car. I saw that I was getting a little on the black trim and I figured I'd just worry about getting it off later.

By the way, my wife saw me trying to rub the wax off the trim, and I told her what happened. She said "Oh I see, it's like skin care. As soon as you buy one product you need another one."

And I never thought I'd need a toothbrush in both rooms!

Anyway, here are some Zymol glamour shots.

nice lookin' countrym!

Zymol Cleaner Wax is their "auto parts store" product, not to be confused with their "real" product line. However, the Cleaner Wax does an excellent job at cleaning up scratches and junk on the paint, BUT it does have silicone, which, as you've found, leaves that nasty white residue everywhere. Hence, Peanut Butter to remove it. (no, I'm not joking)

I used 303 Aerospace on my exterior trims in the past, however lately I've been using Stoner Trim Shine; even easier to use, and since it's a spray, easier to get maximum coverage too. Excellent stuff!

Cheers,
Ryan

How do you keep the overspray from getting on the paint? Or do you wipe it off the paint after you spray?

Ok, picking this topic out of the dust, but with the amount of black trim on my baby makes it worth it.

so here are the contenders:

1. Peanut Butter
2. Back to Black
3. Forever Black
4. 303 Protectant
5. Shoe Polish
6. 70% Isopropyl Alcohol
7. Armor All Detailer's Advantage Protectant
8. Griots detailer
9. Zaino Bros Perfect tire gloss
10. Vinylx
11. Tooth Brush
12. Stoner Trim

in the past i have used

1. Back to Black
2. 303 Protectant
3. Armour All "Stuff"
4. STP "Stuff"

I agree with the statements that Back to Black has a tendancy to wear off quickly, but it looks nice till then. I have used 303 a lot(started on my kayak, and has migrated to the car), what I liked is how long it lasted. I no longer buy the Armour all or STP stuff because it wears off real quick............and actually the armour all stuff on the dash board likes to leave a nice residue on the windows in the summer.....grumble, grumble....

Not sure about the others, but the my dogs may not like me using their peanut butter on the car. The toothbrush makes sense, but I dont have the time. Alcohol seems easy enough........hmm, wonder if it has to be isopropyl.......might try a couple dabs of sam adams.

The other products are probably worth a try..........why dont they make little sample bottles for stuff like this. Would be nice to go in an spend a $1 on a trial product and see if it works first before spending the $5-$9 for the whole bottle.

I ended up buying some of the MINI Exterior Trim Cleaner. I was buying oil filters from Classic (a NAM sponsor) anyway, so I ordered a bottle of the official MINI stuff. It was only 6 or 7 bucks.

I haven't had a chance to try it yet, so I can't tell you how well it works.

Before I got that, I just used Armor All. I spray it on a rag first, so it doesn't get on the paint. It works well, but I guess some people think it fades the plastic over time.

I haven't tried peanut butter, and the toothbrush took too long.

>> I got the official stuff too, says BMW not MINI,it works well, and is the same price as other brands at auto supply shops. In my part of Canada anyway.Their wheel cleaner works good to.Granted I don't have much experence with other products.

I use One Grand ERV on the exterior plastic molding and it looks great. I had them get a lot of white on them in a trip up to Boston in heavy rain and the ERV covered it and left a uniform nice shine. My wax,P21S doesn't leave any white residue. I use Vinylex for the interior vinyl.

Laugh all you want at the peanut butter; it works! Even better, though, is to just use straight peanut oil, which is the solvent that makes the peanut butter effective. I've got a little container of Planter's peanut oil in my box of car care products... That Forever Black stuff does sound great, though!
