Opinions on future shop work

Good Monday morning to you all!

I have a fair amount of rust on my R53. That patch on the trunk that most people get by the handle. Being too large and important of a venture, I won't be undertaking this job. I'll bring it over to a body shop who will probably do a great job. I'll do my research on the place before I leave it with them, obviously.

I also really need to have my front and rear bumpers fixed up. The front has numerous chips, to the point of it looking like it's still dirty. One of the previous owners must have lived on a dirt road. The rear has a couple of scuffs and a few odd droplet marks, like an oil or something that was very hot.

Is cleaning up the bumpers something achievable for the average auto-DIY'er or is that also a job that should be done by a shop?

My other option is to pick up a set of Aero bumpers. But that route includes base price and shipping along with the paint.

would need some pictures. if you are getting the boot done than adding the bumpers shouldn't be too bad on your budget. I love the look of the aero bumpers. it all depends on how bad it is.

I'm gonna try to get some pictures up shortly.

While I was talking to my regular Mini sales rep, I inquired about the cost of an Aero kit. Purchase, paint and install would come to $1600CAD. That sounds pretty good compared to buying it online, shipping it here and then getting it painted. Fixing the existing bumpers is still an option though. $1800(inc. tax) is about $1000 more than I was anticipating to pay, but new Aero bumpers and work from BMW/MINI is extra convenience and trust that the job/colour will get done right.

I've seen figures as high as $4000CAD for an Aerokit install. Does anybody have any knowledge of recent installs and how much they amounted to?
