White Splatter - Help!

All,

Any experience or advice out there for white splatter on moldings? Best as I can guess, I must have driven over a freshly painted white lane line on the road, and it kicked-up and splattered white dots all over the insides of the wheel wells and parts of the molding (see pic).

Some got on the paint as well, but seems to flick off with a little effort and a finger nail. It does not come off as easily off the molding, I'm guessing due to the texture.

Any thoughts?

Ugh... That is horrible. I would use a little paint remover to get rid if it. However, you need to be very careful. You might even try a little sprite and some panty hose (great for bugs) to see if you can get it off with that first. Elbow grease first before hard core chems....

Look up a road striping company and give them a call and ask what you can use to safely use to remove the paint. Or call the local municipality public works department to inquire who they contracted to repaint the roads and ask them the same question.

For the stuff on the paint detailing clay should work. As for the stuff on the trim, not so sure, you might try PreWOW followed by BlackWOW. They do wonders for trim, so they might work in this case too. Good Luck

Hi Ben,

May want to try that pre-wow you got. It may work.

Or perhaps some nail polish remover, however, I would test that in a very remote spot first. Not sure if it would eat the plastic or not.

BTW, the mods are looking great.
Trevor.

Thanks for all the advice folks!

Trevor - thanks! I thought about the Pre-Wow, but am thinking this is more like a paint splatter rather than a wax stain. Will still give it a try!

Did you pressure wash the heck out of it yet?
I'd start there and then try oops or even goof off from the local hardware store.

mini44 - yes I pressure washed the heck out of it...

Good news - looks like PreWow acts as a good solvent in this application. The supplied brush doesn't seem to be stiff enough though. Scraping with a finger nail seems to be working, but it does require some pressure.

Can I let the PreWow sit/soak longer, or is it a spray and brush right away kind of thing?

Also, is PreWow safe on paint? Can I use it as a solvent where the splatter got on the paint too?

Thanks all for your advice!

Got your PM and replied, but for the sake of the thread..

Sorry about the mess but this is fixable.

I would use lil'Chizlers to help remove the paint without scratching your MINI paint.
https://www.showcarsupplies.com/shop...p?id=229&bc=no

Most road paint is hard to remove when the tops of the paint are smooth, but if you can break off the tops so that they are rough...they become porous, and many solvents can then be used. My choices would be PW or 91% alcohol which is also safe for this purpose...better than using any kind of paint solvents or thinners. Some paint shops might even recommend a media reducer for use on the paint, but 91% alcohol is readily available and can be used for other things when you are done. But it will dry out the paint and plastics, so be aware of how you use it!

To answer the questions about PW...yes PW is safe on paint and plastics and even your fingers!

The nylon PW brush was chosen so that it wouldn't damage the paint on the car..but road paint is very hard and that brush isn't the ideal tool. The Lil'Chizlers are plastic with razor sharp edges and intended to be used to remove vinyl graphics from paint safely.

Check out this Lexus IS250 I did awhile back that was also driven through some paint. Although it wasn't easy or quick work, the Lil'Chizlers were safe for the paint and got the results I wanted. Then I followed with alcohol and claybar and wax.

please do tell about this sprite and panty hose trick..... i'm meticulous when washing my car and remove every spot and bug, but yesterday while washing there was a bug that must've been the size of a bat that hit my roof and no amount of scrubbing would remove it completely. it's bothered me all day so i'm curious.....

Had the same problem. Little white specs all over the front of the car. I clay bar'd the car and it worked. It took a long time though...but I did do the whole car and took my time.
