How to remove a dealer decal ?

Hi MINI folks:

I just purchased a 2004 JCW. One owner with 24,400 miles. Paid $16.5K. Happy with everything except for the dealer decal on the hatch. the dealer said that it was to cold out to remove it.

It is supposed to be in the 40's (in PA) this weekend and I want to wash and wax my new ride but also want to get rid of the advertisement. How do I remove the dealer decal. thanks

OMG I hate when dealers put these stupid stickers on cars, they should pay you for everyday you leave it on the car.

I did a funny test a month ago and counted every car I passed on the road and found 7 out of 10 cars still have a dealer sticker or plate frame on it.

The dealer telling you it's too cold to remove is total BS, they just wanted you to keep advertising. You should be able to peel it off with your fingernail them properly clean off any residue. Ask Octaneguy, he's our local detail expert.

After you peel it off (just like any other sticker) just wash the area, if there is any residue clay it. That should get it all off.

Also, that's a great deal for a JCW with such low mileage.

When I purchased my MCS, I used a hairdryer (not a heat gun) to soften the sticker. Worked like a charm.

+1 for clay bar. Or even a good paint cleaner like Meguiars will work pretty good to get the gunk off. Just take it slow, and remove it a layer at a time.

DO NOT use rubbing compound, a blade, or that goo gone stuff. It may end up taking off more than just the gunk.

Funny, we just bought a new minivan for the family last month. I was doing a walk around inspection and noticed the dealer sticker. Uh, that's gotta go. He hold me a similar thing, that it was too cold. i said, take it in the bay and remove it or I won't buy it. 15 minutes later, it was gone!

This is how a dealer would do it (as in a trade in they intend to sell has the competitions sticker on it.)

Just heat it a little at a time and anything stuck on a car will come off.

Hairdryer, peel it by hand, then Goo Gone on a soft rag, rinse it off with a little water, then some wax. That's all you need, I've been doing like that for years, even the metal emblems on my Harleys (although for metal or raised plastic emblems I run a piece of fishing line behind it) and have never gotten a single scratch on my vehicles. The whole thing might take 15/20 minutes

I used a hair dryer and some floss. Came right off with no residue
