OctaneGuy: Don't Get Egged!
After Halloween each year, we start to see posts about how to "fix" damage caused by an egg thrown at their car. I thought I'd start off a thread to help warn people of the damage BEFORE this happens. Getting egged is not funny, harmless, or gentle on your pocketbook!
First off when your MINI gets egged, it's similar to being pelted by a dozen rocks or more because when the egg shell impacts, the shards penetrate the paint, and instead of a single entry point, you have a ring of points. Hard boiled eggs are even worse as they can also dent your car.
So please, if you live in an area notorious for getting egged at Halloween please:
1.) Cover your MINI using a cover that protects from hail or park it in a protected area.
2.) If you get egged, make sure to wash it off ASAP. The egg yolk can damage your paint causing further damage.
3.) Eggs do create serious damage to your paint that cannot be buffed out. The tiny shards of egg shell at impact take away paint that can only be fixed by touching up or repainting.
Here's is a closeup of an egg impact magnified over 400 times.

My car got hit (just in front of the windshield) about this time of year in 2002, only a few months after picking it up from the dealer. Paint damage is still there, waiting until I have an excuse to repaint.
Ugh that's so painful to see. Thanks for posting that. It's the perfect example for just how much damage an egg can cause.

I had an egg thrown at my moving car once, but it landed on the sunroof, so there is no cut up paint, just a small area of EB that is discolored. The white paint was unaffected. Not even sure if that egg had caused the paint discoloration though.
