Does anyone have a simple solution for the back bumper?
Does anyone have a simple solution for the back bumper?
I live on a dirt road, so I try to go for frequent "freshenings" just to keep the dust off.
A wand or one particular automatic wash I've found do a pretty good job without much fuss except for the back bumper. No amount of rinsing seems to help.
I included a picture from a dealer website and I see they have the same problem, judging by the trails on the back bumper.
Wiping it down doesn't really seem to help, there seems to always be more water in the door seal ready to run out as soon as I turn my back.
I am sometimes lacking in common sense on these things, so I thought I would ask here if someone has come up with a simple solution to deal with this.
TIA!

after a wash use a leaf blower or compressed air to get as much water out of the nooks. start from top of hatch (while closed) to bottom.
you'll probably need to do this a few times because sand will continue pouring out the first few cycles...

I open my hatch and dry both the hatch and the sill as they love to drip after a wash... The air vortex around the back of the car is bad about sucking crud up off the road and depositing it on the back bumper... Dirt road or not...
Only two real ways to fix the OP's quandary...
1. Pave the dirt road
2. Move

The kids will be gone in a year or two, moving it definitely on the agenda.
There was talk here about a wing lip that helped with this. No idea if it really works. I doubt it would keep it clean enough on a dirt road. It might help on the normal dust from paved roads.

Keep it well cleaned, waxed, and use a california car duster. I keep it in the back so when I grab my bag, I can easily hold the hatch and lightly dust the bumper and hatch. If it gets real dirty before I'm ready to wash, I usually just hose it off.
Some people are against the cal dusters because they think they will scratch the surface, which is why I only do it when it is semi-clean and waxed. However, I find I can just twist the handle back and forth quickly and barely brush the surface to get all the dust off. I can't see any scratches after doing this for a couple years. Even if it did scratch, I'd rather have some microscopic scratches than a dirty bum.
