Chipped Windshield :(
Chipped Windshield :(
Hey guys,
I just got a chip in my windshield, its the kind that splits off from the center rather than the big circular bulls eye.
what are my options? and how much am i looking at?
is there a way to repair or keep it from growing?
also, if you can suggest someone in southern california that would be great.
Thank You!

You can have most chips/starbursts repaired. If you have insurance it will most likely be of no charge to you and your insurance will not go up because of it. I've had them repaired and have been told the sooner you get the repair done...the better the repair will be. I have used Safelite and Tru-Vu but not in the LA area. Good luck...
They can generally repair them if the crack is no longer than about 5-6" long. They often spread if not repaired so get it looked at right away. If you hit a hard bump it can flex the car enough to propogate the crack and once it is too long a repair is not possible. I had Safelite repair a crack.
insurance won't cover it ....
I'm guessing you don't carry 'comprehensive'? You might want to ask what it would cost to add it .... and even at zero deductable. One windshield replacement will cover a few years in many cases . . .
Call SAFELITE on your own and ask what a repair will cost. You don't say where you are in SoCal but Safelite is in San Diego so go on their website and see how far away they are - they will come to you and can do this in your work parking lot.
You CAN also buy a repair kit and DIY but when a 'pro' does it they have a tool to pull a vacume and get the epoxy well into the crack ... on a DIY you just kind of shoot it in and hope. I think it is worth a few bucks to try and do it right - and so do many insurance companies (IF you have glass coverage which in my case comes under comprehensive)
http://www.eastwood.com/windshield-repair-kit.html an example - your local part shop probably has it too
