Mr Clean Magic Eraser

My white rims were stained brown after a winter of salt and snow. It would not come off with soap and water - no amount of scrubbing seemed to make a difference. On a whim I tried a Mr Clean Magic Eraser (my wife had some for cleaning marks off the walls). The stains came right off with only some light rubbing. It only took about 2 minutes per wheel to return them to their former white. I was amazed!

you do realize you are taking a bit of paint/clearcoat with it? you can use that for bare stainless sinks, ceramics, stone ware, stovetops that gets used, etc.

we use SimpleGreen...

I didn't realize it was that abrasive, thanks for the warning. They are just cheap winter rims anyway, so no worries.

I've used Magic Eraser as well, as a last resort on really stubborn stains that neither Simple Green or a clay bar won't remove. I tear off a little piece and gently rub the small area with the stain.

It is great in the kitchen too.

Magic Erasers are really wicked if you don't watch what you are doing. They will take your paint/clear down to nothing in a matter of a few swipes back and forth.

It is foam melamine if I remember correctly. It really only works when it is wet, but when it is wet, it can get into pores of material a lot better than a typical sponge can do, that is why it works so effectively...And quickly. It is SUPER abrasive.

Definitely use with caution.

Apparently, they're also pretty good for carefully cleaning phonograph styli
(dry, not wet, though). Wonder how many here that advice still applies to.

I had never thought of using a magic eraser on a car... normally we only have to use them in the kitchen after one of my cooking disasters (which happened pretty much every time...).

Never even thought to use it on a car!

I've seen Mr. Clean magic erasers for cars. Maybe they're a less abrasive version.

Ya apparently deleted half my post before I posted it... The other half of that was basically "Now I never will".

Apparently when my fiancee is out of town I am unable to organize myself properly even in things that she has nothing to do with.

I'll forget how to dress myself next...
