Cleaning PC Pads

Any advice?

I have purchased some new pads, but would like to restore some old ones as well. I used them and then just sorta put them aside, rather than properly cleaning them.

In the future, I want to use one pad per one product, and mark each pad in some way that I can tell which one used which product. For now, I would like to clean up some of the old pads as well as possible.

Advice please, my fellow OCD'ers!

Drop or 2 of Dawn dish soap, work pad with your hands. Then rinse till no soap comes out of the pad. Place pad on dish rack, Velcro side up to dry. Store pads with product bottles in zip-lock bags.

not sure if old dried up crap would ever come out. best to get new pads for your car. pads are much cheaper than your car.

and yah, very good idea to mark your pads and use the same product for that one pad. often times when i use polymer sealants i just use it once and toss it. it takes a lot of detergent to clean it and so not very economical (and a big waste of my time to wash it each time. )

I gotta admit, that looks pretty cool. Not $134.95 cool, but pretty doggone cool nonetheless. Granted, I get the full Grit Guard system included, but $134.95....?

Looks like careful shopping might get it delivered for under $100...

$100 buys A LOT of pads. Takes me minutes to clean a pad, and they last quite a few uses.

You could do this with a regular Grit Guard and a shallow bucket...

No, I am not going to yield to its siren call. It is way kewl, but $100 definitely buys a lot of pads; pads that I am only going to use on one car; a car that I take delivery of any day now. This is a toy for one who is far more PC-centric than I.

I've been thinking of adding a pad washer to my shop but that's only because I'm getting into production mode here where I use 6 pads for each person buffing, and I'm getting tired of washing the pads all the time.

For the average joe, and long before I got to this stage of thinking I want a faster way to wash...I had no issues with just taking my pads into the sink and running them under some water for a few seconds. The orange pads wash the easiest as they are more porous than the white pads.

If you're using the Prima system:

Swirl, Finish, and Cut easily washes out with water in just a few seconds
Amigo needs some Dawn soap worked into the pad and repeated several times.
Epic is the same as Amigo and needs Dawn soap and repeated washings and squeezings.

For older pads with Swirl, you can wash them without issues..but I would check to see if they are still in good enough condition to put them back into use.

you can get those meguiar's cheezo pads for real cheap and they work just fine for applying amigo and sealants.

it'll cost more (my time) to wash it than just tossing it.

Ok after watching the video, I decided that $135 for a spring loaded Grit Guard isn't worth it to me either, lol. I already spin dry my pads in a bucket, and I don't think this will help me wash my Amigo pads any better.
