Trim Detailer Test, the Sequel: 303, Adam's, Mother's, Black Wow
Earlier this year, I posted a thread comparing 4 trim detailers that I on my shelf:
In that test, Black Wow didn't live up to its billing, and I was at a loss as to why. Since the results didn't seem to jibe with everything else I've seen, I decided to do a second test.
For this test, I applied the products to the side skirt, which hadn't had any protection applied in a few months. This is a different area than in the first test, and all products were applied over larger areas with a thin microfiber cloth.
I applied 2 coats of Black Wow, as is generally recommended the first time. Apparently I applied them too close together because it was kind of glossy and attracted dust. I wiped it down with a microfiber cloth and that corrected the condition.
Here are the photos:

As you can see, Black Wow lasted as long as you would have expected, and once again Mother's Back to Black put in a good showing.
If I were a consumer testing magazine, I'd have to give Mother's the "Best Buy" award. But remember that my trim, while 5 years old and not obsessively maintained, is in good condition. We've all seen the evidence of what BW can do to restore faded trim to show its additional capabilities beyond just basic protection.

Remember, in the days before BW, Back to Black was the most recommended trim detailer around these parts. There was good reason for that! It does last quite well, and it's cheap and available at local auto-parts stores.
BW does a better job, can do more than simply protect, and has a less-glossy finish that many people prefer in this post-Armor All world in which we live.
A better test would be to find a Mini with grayed trim and apply all 4 products. That's where BW would really show its capabilities.

Great test. Thanks! Although I like Back to Black and use it quite often, it can run. One of my vehicles is a Dodge Dakota with a rear spoiler on it (a glorified tailgate protector) that gets scuffed up from normal use. Even when I apply the Back to Black in my garage and let it sit over night (the garage is heated), I'll still get streaks running down the tailgate days later, if we've had any kind of dew or fog. I'd love to try the Black Wow to see if it doesn't run, but I can't get the stuff around here.
