Acetone on Windshield?

I have RainX on my windshield and would like to remove it. Will acetone work? It's supposed to be great from removing thin 'films' and I don't want to damage my windshield. Thanks.

Seems a bit extreme. Try vinegar, or alcohol mixed 50/50 with water.

+1 on the rubbing alcohol. use alcohol (I use 70%) or Griot's PaintPrep.

actually Griot's WindowCleaner will also remove it. it has higher alcohol content vs Clarity (my guess per evaporating speed)

Acetone *would* work but I'd go another route as well. It'll eat right through your paint if you drip or spill - I use it to remove nail polish easily!

plus it could dry out the seals if you get them on the edges of the glass.

Lets not forget you need thick rubber gloves if you work with acetone. It does bad things to humans.

Although acetone won't harm glass, I agree that it seems a little harsh. I also suggest mixing rubbing alcohol (standard stuff from your local drugstore) and water, 50/50. That should do the trick and is less harsh.

Actually, FYI... Prima Clarity does not contain any alcohol at all.

Acetone will leave steaks on your glass, which you will have to remove with something else.

Are those steaks medium rare? I like mine that way.

Would Windex would remove them? I'm concerned with damaging the glass by using acetone more than anything.

windex actually leaves behind residue... and belongs in the stove/counter top/kitchen sink cleaning basket.
