Prima and the Big Boys
Concours detailer Tim McNair has been using Prima for a few years now. He's the guy you call when you want to prep your car for Pebble Beach. He sends me pictures of some the very cool and rare cars he works on. He's a huge fan of Epic and BG. The two cars below were done in Epic for the "2009 Cavallino classic, Mar-A -Lago, Palm Beach, FL"
1938 Delahaye 135MS, Best in Class, Best Interior
The Delahaye is a 1938 Paris show car. Interior custom made by Hermes. When the car was restored Hermes sent 2 techs in to assemble the interior using original build sheets from the “30’s

Next up is a 1957 Jaguar D-Type which took best in class at the show. This car finished 3rd in the 1957 24 Hours of Lemans.

If you are ever in the Philladelphia area, be sure to stop by the Simeone Foundation Museum. Tim is their go-to guy. http://www.simeonefoundation.org/

Tim sends me some great pictures-including a Pebble Beach winner. If you like, I can add them here as I get them.

The Delahaye can't help but be gorgeous, but that Jag looks rather over-restored for a race car.
I guess the difference between a concours and a car show is that you don't see swirl marks at a concours!
I'm always amazed at the swirled out paint jobs I see on expensive exotic cars and rare classics at the shows I go to. People just don't know what can be done with the proper products and techniques.

Once I fixed it for him and he saw what it *should* have looked like in the first place, he had a few "choice" words for his painter.
I was really disappointed. i went to the Philly auto show on thursday and the cars from the Simeone foundation were covered in swirls. everyone of them from the 1938 BMW 328 to the Plymouth RoadRunner. it was really disconcerting for me bc the photos above look impeccable.
i should mention that very few displays were perfect. just the elite cars Porsche Lambo Bentley and the DUB showcases.

Most of the older guys at the shows don't even recognize the swirls as a problem. Before I educated my father his 31 Chevy 5-window was swirl city, just like the majority of the cars at the shows I go to. Once I showed him what to look for and how to get rid of them he saw the light and now his finish is pure delight.
So I'm gonna go with most cars at a car show that have swirled out paint are owned by people that don't have a clue rather then them trying to retain the thickness of their original paint.
