plastic conditioning?

Hey all. I'm not familiar at all with detail although I just had my first experience with the mini. I washed, clay bared and waxed. All this work got me to thinking, I had cleaned or treated every place on the car with more than a wash except the exterior black plastic (the plastic on the sides and basically around the edges of the car). My car is now 6-7 years old and I would like to treat the plastic with something to help it stay nice and not get dry and cracked. It doesn't look bad now but I would like it to stay that way. I looked around for products to condition the outer plastic with and had no luck. I could only find plastic treatments for the head/tail lights (which I used but still need to get inside of the lights, but that's a whole 'nother post). Please help me find a product to protect my plastic!

I have also heard that Black Wow works really well. I have been told that it even removes wax residue from black trim. When I detail my car I usually use Mothers Back to Black. It definitely makes it look less dull and "dry".

Wow that sounds great! Do you know if stores carry it? I hate paying shipping and I'd like to do it tomorrow haha. I'm going to google for detail shops in my area. Thanks so much for the quick and helpful response!

I came across that product when looking up black wow, it's definitely cheaper, does it last long?

Back to Black is what I used before Black Wow and it is OK for what you can find in the store but doesn't last very long... Black Wow is a little trickier to apply but last a long time (many washes) and it looks expensive until you use it. There is many applications in that little bottle when used correctly. Sorry but stores don't carry it. Detailers Paradise is good people with great service and customer support, you should also pick up a bottle of Prima Hydro there!

Being in San Diego, I'm sure there is a place near you that carries it. There is even a small place here in Hawaii that carries it! Just call around.

back to black is imho garbage. it not only attracts dust it washes away
if you use QD or just plain wash the car. i have experimented with that
product in the past and could never like it.

if you want something that's only for short temporary use, i recommend
aero303 or prima nero. if you want durability definitely upgrade to
blackwow.

No, it doesn't remove polish or wax residue. It covers it up.

Octane Guy (Show Car Detailing) is releasing a product soon that will actually remove it.

Come on CRPWWHITEWAXMARKSJB it actually does more then just cover it up. Black WOW actually helps remove wax residue. Used with a microfiber pad like DP's blue skinny and Black WOW with a little rubbing will completely remove wax residue. Having said that, I can't wait for the new product only because it may require less rubbing.

Ummmmm... maybe you're rubbing the top layer of plastic off the trim and the residue along with it, Chuck. Or maybe you're using the Black Wow so frequently, you just keep covering it up.

But me, I've given about 20 lbs of elbow grease with the black wow, six weeks later, the white marks are back again.

I'm pretty sure Richard would even agree to this as I recall him doing so in a different thread.

Black Wow covers it. Pre-Wow, or whatever it will be called, will remove it.

Now that you mention it my trim does seem to be a Shadow of its former self.
Could be my trim just doesn't stain as bad.
In either case I'm too looking forward to Pre-WOW!

Putting any Mother's product on your MINI would be like wearing a $5,000 Italian Silk Suit and wearing Crocs with it.

For me, BW *does* remove wax residue, but it doesn't really work on polish residue. Maybe because the polish is ground in there more using the PC than the wax is since I do that by hand?

ha.

I like it. But I haven't tried BW. Can you get it at the store, or do you have to order it online?
