My Product Tip to the MINI Community

Yes there are many products available for us MINI owners to keep our vehicles looking in tiptop condition. I am sure that a lot of these products I see here are great products but I have more than enough bottles of stuff around that would do just the same if not better than those products. I just can't bring myself to keep buying more stuff or George Carlin will be giving me an earfull of STUFF!!! LOL

I just wanted to share a product that I use on a daily basis with the community.

I have a hobby of collecting, repairing, and restoring pinball machines. I thought I would try some of the products (actually 1 brand, 3 different products) that I use for restoring pinball machines on my MINI. Now you may be asking what the heck could I use for pinball machines and my MINI. Well there is 1 Product line that the Pinball Community uses excessively to polish playfields, plastics, and generally anything on the machine.

The product you ask? NOVUS

Now this product line is sold as a plastic polish/scratch remover. Although I am NOT convinced of it removing scratches in plastic, it is a fantastic polish.
Note: These products do need to be buffed so I would NOT use these products on a textured surface.

I use Novus 1 for polishing the plastic artwork pieces on a pinball machine playfield. This product is a spray that has great dust resistance and polishes to a very high shine. I have tried this product on my Piano Black trim by spraying the product on my polishing cloth let it dried and polished to a very nice shine and slick surface.

I use tons of Novus 2 cleaning and polishing pinball playfieds. I also use it to polish the chrome posts and ball guides. Now this product is more like a liquid wax and needs to be applied like one. I have not yet used this product on my MINI, but I will try a sample next to some top of the line auto wax on the plastic bumpers.

For the record.
I use Novus 3 for heavy dirt on playfields and plastics but I see NO use for this product on my MINI.

A similar product is Meguiar's Mirror Glaze #17 Clear Plastic Cleaner and #10 Clear Plastic Polish. Those should be well known to any soft rear window convertible owner.

I gave up on Meguiar's and Novus quite awhile ago in favor of Plexus Plastic Cleaner for light cleaning duties (for transparent surfaces). It applies much easier than those bottle products, and with the reduction in cleaning effort I find I clean more often. YMMV.

If I had a pinball machine that sits outside, I would use an automotive product. If I had a car that lived in the family/game room of my house, I would use a product that is designed for interior use.

Novus is NOT an interior only product, nor was it ever designed for a pinball machine. It is used outside in many marine applications along with the auto industry.

Sorry, did not know that. Guess the pinball things you were talking about had me confused.

I'll check into it.

Yeah I was surprised about the use of this product on pinball machines when I started collecting them. It is just a very easy product to use, good results, and I have gallons of it on my shelf

This post wasn't meant to promote this product over the much better waxes, and car care products that are listed here. It is meant as an FYI that I have a product that turned out very good results.

You wouldn't own any stock in Novus, would you ?

Just sayin'... that post sounded an awful lot like an infomercial. And your post count doesn't exactly scream "trust me".

Speaking of infomercials and screaming, you're not THIS guy, are you ??

Well, I was hoping for more than one "LOL" but hey, at least you didn't throw eggs at me.

Ah well, no gigs as a stand up comedian for me, but my day job pays okay.

I used some of that Novus plastic cleaner at work today. It cleaned the Plexiglas panels
I was working on very nicely. It also claims to be an anti-static spray, which it seemed to have, as not dust from the shop settled on the panels.

That line always follows the statement "One of these will last a lifetime."

You may be skeptical about my post because I don't rank up there in the total post category, or maybe I don't know enough about MINI's. I have been testing products for manufacturers for over 20 years in coatings and resins. Mfg's such as PPG, Dupont, Carboline, Zinsser, Benjamin Moore, etc. etc.

Let me put it in those famous last words "Trust ME"

If you are interested in a product that is NOT immediately available to the public, but will get rid and neutralize all the road salt from from your vehicle and is TOTALLY Biodegradable, then throw me a PM.

I've been in the paint and coatings industry for over 30 years, everything from house, auto, indrustrial (bridges). I have plenty of secret products that I could share but with your attitude mister

It's always nice to learn about potentially good alternative products.

How does it compare price-wise to car polishes? And is it intended only for plastic?

I don't know what you would compare these products too, as far as a wax line goes. One of my suppliers for pinball stuff sells it for:

Novus #1 Plastic Clean & Shine (8 oz spray bottle) $4.99
Novus #2 Fine scratch remover playfield polish (8 oz.) $5.99

It's great to see people looking to use products from other industries on your prized MINI. In fact, a lot of times, products sold for one application is indeed the same product, just under different labeling and or slight color/fragrance variations.

Just a couple of things. A polish isn't a wax, so don't confuse them. In the same way, a polish doesn't provide protection. While polishes for both plastic and paint might be similar, there are instances, especially in plastic polishing where UV protection is desirable.

I know you encouraged us to Google you to find out your background, and yes there is a plethora of information on your Pinball background including your questions back in 2005 about how to touch up paint, but should the fact that you are a dealer for Novus change our opinion of you??

http://www.muddeatr.com/Supplies.htm

Novus 1 - 8oz. Spray Bottle $9.00/Bottle

Novus 2 - 8oz. Squeeze Bottle $10.00/Bottle

Novus 3 - 8oz. Squeeze Bottle $10.50/Bottle

Yeah copy and paste from my website that is nothing but a hobby. I do buy/sell, repair/restore pinball machines. Why would you think I am a dealer for a product that takes up 1/1000 of my webiste?

Maybe I will just give the MINI community my website if they haven't already found it through google and let decide.

As I said before, and I will say it again. This is not a product to replace your high priced, I mean high end car wax. It is a simple and affordable solution to keep your plastic looking good between the wax jobs.

Thanks, I think I will.

While the most widely recognized form of spam is e-mail spam, the term is applied to similar abuses in other media: instant messaging spam, Usenet newsgroup spam, Web search engine spam, spam in blogs, wiki spam, mobile phone messaging spam, Internet forum spam and junk fax transmissions.

Unwanted solicitation on an internet forum. Spam.
