They'll do the minimum to hide the problems enough to make a non-car enthusiast think they did a nice job so they can collect their money.
I have witnessed a guy using a MOP to wash his customers cars . It was actually for a lady I work with. When I tried to explain to her what he was doing, and what I could do for her she wanted to know the price for me to do it. Sadly she wanted to opt for his $40 "wash" and vacuum over my $300 detail or my $75 maintenance wash/wax/interior clean. She may as well go through a touch car wash... but then again those won't vacuum your interior.

if you wash/hydro/vac and clean the windows real well, MOST people will
be like WOW!

WOW, as in, I CAN SEE CLEARLY THROUGH THE WINDOWS!

most people can't tell the difference to justify the money delta.

No, they can't.

I couldn't believe that she would rather have a guy wash her car with a MOP and vacuum her interior for $40 over me washing it and touching up the details like tires, trim and windows, apply a spray wax, vacuum the interior and cleaning the panels and seats for $75. I'm in the wrong buisness!

...but again, for some people, "It's just a car ". I about shot a guy that said that to me about his Jet Black e36 M3 with ground control coilovers, a rollbar, stoptech brakes that FILLED his 19" SSR competitions, and significant engine mods. I would kill for that car.
