Chili Red & Hydro
Chili Red & Hydro
I just started using Hydro last week, and I love the ease of use and the protection it gives, but I've noticed that it makes my CR look a little...orange-ish? Has anyone else noticed this?

Well Hydro in concentrated form is orange. Maybe you should use a little less and stop bathing and drenching your MINI in Hydro? Maybe you should try using Slick and see if your paint turns green! Or use some Mystique and maybe you'll get Purple Haze instead of CR! Be careful of using too much BW too. Wouldn't want the CR turning into a Watermelon Jolly Rancher either!
Fair point, but I'm really not using that much.

I said it in a sort of "tongue and cheek" sarcastic way =P. Hydro has polymers in it--just like Epic. It's going to deepen the color of your paint as well as making it look shiny. If you can post some pictures of this "orangy" look that would help. But there is no doubt about it--Hydro will affect the color of the paint in a positive way.

Beware of photos of Chili Red.... given some lighting conditions, the photos can turn out to appear orangish-red.

Hydro makes you have more of a shiney shine (as opposed to a deep shine) & the reflectiveness of a shiney shine makes a finish look lighter which in turn makes the red look more orangey. If you want your chili red to stay deeper when you wax then do Epic only or if you really want amazing depth top your Epic off with a nice coat or 2 of carnauba. I recommend P21-S carnauba or my absolute favorite carnauba is Victoria Red Concours Wax
The Victoria is a breeze to wipe on/off & you should apply a new coat (of carnauba only) approx every month. Epic topped with Victoria is the best of both worlds. You get the protection from the Epic & the amazing Deep Shine of a carnauba wax from the Victoria
ETA pic (it's in the shade a bit so it doesn't look quite this dark out in the sunlight but this is how I roll with Epic & Victoria wax)

But hey, I already have reservations for 2009 so if you can make it, I'll see you then !!

Hey Theresa--I know you love Carnauba and Victoria--but I'm still not sold on the improvements over just doing Epic. The lighting plays such an important factor when trying to capture "the look".

Agreed! We're #1!
To me you can't capture any of the differences effectively in a picture. The difference between Hydro & carnauba is miles apart & very obvious to me. The difference between Epic alone or Epic topped with Victoria wax isn't as drastic but I can see it with my eye & if I have time to add 2-3 coats of Victoria on top of the Epic my finish looks so deep it almost feels like I can dive into my bonnet & swim in the finish. I will say Epic is the closest I have ever seen a synthetic get to looking like a carnauba but (on darker colors) if you top Epic with Hydro you basically ruin that look of depth & cross over the the reflective shiney shine side.
. It's so hard to get across what you are trying to say using just words on the page sometimes... ya know
Is your definition of shiney shine the same as mine, hmmm
But it's so tempting...
Before that pic was taken ? A few weeks, if that. As an OCDetailer, that car never goes more than a few months without a complete detailing--clay, polish, wax, the whole nine yards.
I'm very sure that has nothing to do with the orangish-red appearance on the photo. I am sure that it's purely the sun's angle and the camera angle. I've taken other pics of that MINI in the sunlight and many of them turn out orangish looking.

CR, hate that I missed you at the dragon this year. Hope I can go next year...
