ANYONE EVER USE XZILON

I got a can of this from a dealership I used to work at. I was told if I put it on my windows it will work like rain-ex. It's supposed to offer good paint protection. Any feedback on how to use and what not to apply it on,like plastic if using wax , would be appreciated.

XZILON

Anyone familiar with this product. I got a can of this from a dealership I used to work for. Boeing uses it on their planes as a paint protecterant. Was told to put two applications on my windows and it will work permantly like rain-ex. Any feedback on how to use and what not to use it on would be appreciated.

We have a car that has been completely treated with this stuff since fall. My husband and I both have been really pleased with it. If your car is dusty a rain shower will make it look like you just spent an hour or so washing it.

It's hard to resist the temptation to wax a car out of habit, but it's really nice to not HAVE to do it.

Maybe with more time I'll find that I'm NOT happy with the treatment but for now

Reviving an old thread here! I just got xzilon applied to my mini yesterday.. the whole process took about an hour... is this normal? To my understanding it should take about 2hours to do the interior and exterior... I'm beginning to wonder if they even applied the xzilon or if they just detailed my mini. The service rep said that they had a few people working on it thats why it was so fast....

There is a funny thing about this thread. I actually know what Xzilon is! The CEO of Xzilon owns this black Maserati. His son found me and convinced his father to use my services.

Lots of swirls and buffer trailers from another detailer

Needless to say Xzilon (like other dealer coatings) does nothing for protecting the paint (from neglect). It does make polishing the paint more difficult as the coating makes the pads sticky.

The CEO brought his car back to me two months later because he was at a photoshoot and another detailer tried to wash and wax the paint, instead swirling it and leaving trails all over.

After restoring his paint a second time, his comment was simply...he didn't even know that it was possible for a detailer to actually remove swirls instead of just masking them. He didn't have Xzilon on the second time around he brought me the car (maybe didn't have enough time to apply it in two months?)

Interesting.. thats the same maserati thats featured on the xzilon homepage and it doesn't even have xzilon applied to it!?? So, this guy sells the stuff but wont even use it on his own ride... makes me regret having my mini coated inside and out with this stuff! Richard, any info on the effects of xzilon on the interiors of cars??

Actually what I said is that he had Xzilon on the first time I polished the paint. Maybe in the following two months, he didn't have time to put it back on, or maybe he decided not to do it. I don't really know. When the photos were taken for the website, it definitely had Xzilon on it. My point is not whether he uses it or not, but rather, why would you want to use it on the MINI?

People don't realize that there is much more to protecting your paint than just making it look shiny. If you apply a coating that still lets your paint get swirled out by car washes or poor maintenance, your paint is going to look as neglected as if you didn't use the product and never polished or waxed your paint.

Why would anyone want that?
As for interior protection, I have no idea. After seeing how miserable it was to remove from the paint (water didn't bead when the paint was wet, paint looked dull before washing) and that I didn't see any positive benefits from the coating, I wasn't all that interested in how it protected the interior.

You aren't supposed to polish your paint if it's treated with the product is what I've always heard.

My husband's car was treated at purchase with it, it has never been polished and has never needed to be polished when washed (we always wash by hand) properly in the year and a half that he has had it.

I can't speak for cars that have seen a wash/polish regime BEFORE the application but the hubby's paint is still as purdy as it was at purchase.
Perhaps not polishing the vehicle is the key to the water beading and the application still functioning? Perhaps the mistake was made during application? I suppose it's like a lot of stuff, some folks have really good experiences and some not so great.

I have to agree with the above poster that that stated that when it rains it's like a wash, unless the rain doesn't hit certain spots obviously. My husband's car beads like crazy when it rains.

He's had no trouble and I plan on having my 04 Mini treated when it's repainted in the fall.

(I will not applying the product myself because I'm sure I'd do a poor job as I'm impatient.)

There's rain in the forecast for socal tomorrow..... I'm curious to see how the xzilon will react. If I'm not impressed I will be back at the dealer for a reapplication... I'm still a little put off by the fact that they applied the xzilon inside and out in about an hour! I was told it would take 2+ hours to apply... did they really apply the xzilon or are they just giving me the run around... makes me wonder.
