proper carwash

dont fret....i use old underwear, a mild soap and any kind of wax i can find, and I win every contest I enter on the East Coast....there are a lot of these obsessive types out there who don't have anything better to do except worry about microfibers, but my results speak for themselves

the main thing is just wash often, use a gentle soap, and find something that smells good.....just like you do for yourself

i hope this helps

Car shows are a poor way to judge your paint. Most judges wouldn't know a swirl if it reached out and bit them on the ****.
Seriously, some of the worst looking swirls I have seen have been on "show cars".

Yeah I started a thread here somewhere about a car show I attended and how awful the paint on 90% of the cars looked.

The question is, what will those finishes look like in 5-10 years...horrible.

Laugh all you want but that you have no idea how much time that technique saves. Time to do more important things than worrying about how a car looks

And you dont really need a bar of soap. Some TIDE or powdered detergent works well too. I see you got a cabrio. That make life much easier, just keep that top down (as MINI likes to market that car), throw some TIDE inside the car, drive real fast in the rains ... woot, clean interior. Let it sun dry for that nice fresh smell. Woot!

You need lots of rain. Maybe a hurricane.

One thing to also be aware of: Besides using good products (lots of advice already given here), you need to use proper technique. You don't want to "scrub" things down. Try "caressing" instead ( ). Seriously, do not rub hard when washing or drying.

Since the rims are clearcoated how are these washed? I wouldn't want to use the lambswool on the rims due to the heavy grit and brake dust. Or do I treat it exactly like the paint? I have the 17" web spoke rims...and its only been a couple weeks and they are filthy. I have a date with the car this friday or saturday for its first wash. I need to get everything in order to get it right.

No No No NOOOOOO!!! Sorry for the loudness there. But do NOT use your lambswool for anything other than the paint on your MINI!!!!!!!!

Get a cheap cotton chenille mitt, or a sponge and dedicate it for the wheels.

Clearcoated wheels are painted, so you won't use a wheel cleaner. You can claybar them if you want--though not necessary unless you are trying to remove specific spots.

Use car wash soap and water and a mitt. The brake dust will come off easily as long as it's not caked on for several weeks. Wax it if you want to make removing brake dust easier next time.

well atleast I asked... I have a sponge that I had for my acura (I never used it) that I will dedicate for the wheels.

Just picked up two 5 gallon buckets at home depot... $10. I think I am ready to sit down and watch that how-to-watch video and wash.
