Yep! I saw the great results you did on your classic. For the work I do, which is trying to use the PC or UDM in place of my RB, the orange pad and Swirl suits me just fine. I know I'm going to follow it with multiple polishing steps and I already know what steps will be necessary to get the best finish.

I have 3 orange pads and 2 white pads and 2 black pads that I switch between. I actually need to get another orange pad (as close as taking it from my inventory ) because once they start to get worn, they disintegrate (dust) all over your paint.

I think I actually might have gotten BETTER results with a slightly more agressive pad... I still have some trace swirling and other small imperfections that a careful inspection will show. A second polishing with Swirl probably would have removed them on the white pad, but I suspect that a single careful pass with an orange pad would have knocked them out altogether. As it was though, I stuck to what I knew since the entire car and its paint was already a huge X-factor...

Maybe next time - I'll order some additional pads soon.

A lot of times those final traces are the hardest to get out and need more than a second pass with a fine pad. Sometimes what you've got are swirls that were deeper than you initially expected and using a fine pad removes the lighter portions of them while the deeper parts remain as traces and successive passes of the same fine pad don't actually remove those traces that actually need a more aggressive pad to take out.

The only way to know for sure is to try it though.

It's sometimes almost TOO much detail (I was almost overwhelmed the first time I saw it), but it's worth a careful viewing. Good techniques there, for sure.

Imagine how I felt after viewing all 14 hours of raw footage everyday for a year!

Haha, the only good ones were at the end of the DVD. Most of what was cut was more of the same info, or details that weren't necessary. Other stuff were flubs, or continuity issues from scene to scene.

So....

I decided to redo the whole car after waiting a few weeks.
What I did this time:
1. Dawn washed, clayed, washed again (not dawn).

2. Swirled. Ohhhhhh man! After doing the bonnet I would have killed someone for a
PC! Polishing using Swirl by hand is a LOT of work. :impatient The finish did turn out nice...so I thought.

3. Wiped the car down with QD to get off a little bit of the haze that was still on the car.

4. Applied the first coat of Epic. Thank God you have to wait at least 30 mins...a nice break. Then I wiped the car down with a MF towel. It looked great, but when I looked at the bonnet I saw some streaks of the Swirl polish haze that was still there! I tried to get it out, but it was too late....it was sealed in for good. So I sucked it up and proceeded to do another coat of Epic. I waited again and when I wiped it down the haze was diminished some. I felt a little better.

Now I'm going to wait 24 hrs and do another coat of Epic. We'll see how it turns out. Looks great otherwise!...anything I can do here???

Octane Guy's video is great. I thought it had just the right amount of "detail." After seeing him work away on the swirls, I knew I was gonna get a machine, which I did. (I don't have any swirls, yet, though). Now, if the temp ever drops below 90 and I get medicated enough, I may actually detail my car. So far, I've only washed and Hydro'd, with the exception of some parking lot induced rash removal.

MINIFVR - Use some Swirl over the spot. This will remove the Epic and then you can wipe off the residual and then re-Epic that spot. It is very hard to get a polish like Swirl to totally breakdown when doing the job by hand. Swirl, like ScratchX, is harder to remove when it is not totally diminished. Not a complete loss however, just a minor set-back.

When I do the next full detail in October will the Swirl residue be taken off by the clay and polish? I have a feeling that the residue is all over the car. If this is the case, ill just wait until october to do another detail. It looks fine until you put a light over it and stare at it.

The Swirl did a great job getting the small stuff out, but not all of the swirls were removed. I think that if I had used a more abrasive pad and a PC it would have turned out a little better...but at least my paint got a good cleaning after it was clayed.

You make mistakes, but thats the only way to get better! I've got a detailing job lined up for tomorrow (not using Prima tho), so that should pick my spirits up!

Well I just checked and it seems that a good portion of the car still has this haze on it....so looks like I'll be waiting till the fall. Third's a charm!

Well, that is a drag. But like you said you learn every time (I know I do), so next time it will be even better and easier. I don't believe leaving the Swirl residue under the Epic will do any harm.

Thanks for the advice.

Also, between now and October I think I'll invest in some Amigo to go on after the Swirl, as LynnEl suggested earlier.

I think you'll like the Amigo. It is much easier to remove than Swirl (almost Epic-like) and will fill any remaining swirls. Also I guess the side benefit is that by using Amigo after Swirl, you're pretty well assured of removing all of the Swirl since you will be wiping down twice and Amigo will also remove any residual stuff.
You know for a non-detailer, LynnEl came up with a good idea!

Yeah, I figured that the Amigo would take care of any residual Swirl left.

And wouldn't you know, speak of the devil- I hydro'd it this morning and it looks UNBELIEVABLE. I can't even see the polish haze anymore. I'm turning even more heads then I was before. I've never seen a shine like this before!
