Thanks for trying Hydro and Slick! Of course, it would probably be helpful if you knew what to use Slick for. Don't worry- that's what I'm here for!

Slick is pretty much what is considered a "traditional quick detail spray" that also happens to leave an unusual super-slickness on the paint.

Traditional quick detail sprays, including Slick, typically have the following in common:
  • Mild cleaners/lifters
  • Lubricants (primarily to help in safely touching/rubbing the paint)
  • Polymers (primarily to add shine)
As I mentioned, Slick also leaves the surface super-slick. It's funny... most customers find themselves touching their paint uncontrollably after using Slick. It's so silky feeling.

So when might you use Slick?
  • After a wash- to add some shine or extra shine or just for the slickness!
  • To remove water spots, bird droppings and other nasties- when you simply aren't able to do an immediate handwash (it's of utmost importance to remove such things ASAP or they will likely etch your paint... sometimes irreversibly)
  • To wipe down wheels- if you're using a wheel sealant or other synthetic wax on your wheels and you don't need to use a powerful wheel cleaner (not to mention you'd want to avoid using a wheel cleaner when you're using a wheel sealant/wax unless really necessary simply because you'd be really wearing down your sealant!)
  • To "dust" your car- IF AND ONLY IF your car is perfectly clean of real dirt or heavy dust. An example of this might be the morning after an evening handwash when the car has been garaged all night. As a rule, you never want to touch your paint unless it's been handwashed first or you could scratch it (unless you have water spots/bird droppings... it's worth the risk in that case!).
By contrast, Hydro is a concentrated spray wax. Yes, it can be used like a quick detail spray but it contains less cleaners/lifters (therefore less effective at any of the cleaning-related tasks) and actually has a true synthetic wax in it. It also gives a more glossy/wet look than Slick.

Does that help? Other experienced Slick users may chime in with some other good uses too.

Ok I said I'd post some pics after I got to use more of my new Prima products. I decided to tackle the job in two stages, first all of the black paint, next week or so the white paint.

A test area using Finish & Amigo both by hand

Wing before

Wing after polishes and Epic

Roof after polishes and Epic

I am very pleased how it came out, hopefully in the next few weeks I'll get a chance to do the rest of the car.

Again money well spent.

Yes Kenchan, a completely original idea. Who could have thought outside the box to come up with a totally innovative use for a laundry detergent measuring cup except for you! The leap from laundry detergent to car soap ... absolutely remarkable! You truly must be the "ken" of measuring devices. JK, JK.

AudioNToxication - very nice results. You might find that the difference between Amigo and Finish is very subtle. Often I will skip Finish altogether and instead follow Swirl with Amigo. I however have a CR MINI, and it's paint may be different then yours. It looks like you got some good results! Love to see a picture of the entire MINI.

Yeah Ken is letting things get to his head--I've been suggesting the idea of laundry detergent caps for years, much longer than you've been addicted to Hydro for sure!

Well, I can't play the piano - so I must be the dancing banana .. and look at me dance. Dance banana, dance! hooyee that banana can dance!
That banana is too busy dancing to even think about using a liquid detergent measuring cup for any other purpose than to measure liquid things. Dance banana dance. Man is that entertaining or what. Can you believe he is still dancing? It's like has has no cares whatsoever, just dancing and dancing. So happy, so free and so much dancing. Dance, dance , dance. Yippee look at him dance. And the piano player - one heck of a player if I must say so myself. Still playing and still dancing. Simply inspiring. Probably just so happy that the leap from liquid detergent measuring to liquid car detergent measuring has finally been realized within their lifetimes, with an existing tool! Just dancing and playing, playing and dancing....Thanks for sharing Kenchan!

gokart- no PC all be hand, and yes my arm is a little sore.

maybee- I went with Finish because I didn't know if Swirl would be too much, but now that I've used Finish I may be ordering up some Swirl soon. And some more MF towels.

I only worked on the top, but if you really want to see her, here ya go.

Oh and the body was Hydro'd and the arches Nero'd.

I actually use Swirl on the A-pilers all the time since they are swirl prone. I think they are just plastic but they swirl just driving around. So I have a 4" pad for my PC and I use Swirl on them followed by Amigo and Epic. Then Hydro in-between complete detailing. You gotta love the PW, so classy looking! Nice wheels by the way.

If you asked me a couple years ago if I would ever spend $150 dollars on one order of car cleaning products, I would have laughed in your face.

Anyway I work hard for my money and don't like to spend it, but I definitely will agree my $150 dollars spent at Detailer's Paradise was money very well spent.

cooper99- I was exactly the same as you, I barely even washed my cars, let alone spent money buying stuff to do it. Something about the Mini that makes you want to clean it.

lol, so you have some sort of fixation on detergent measuring cups.

too bad my detergent cup is better looking than that...cause it's
from an ALL refill kit which comes with a much better looking cup
than that long/deep toilet paper core looking cap.

oh but wait, kenchan no longer uses caps cause my Griot's pump
can consistently dispend 1oz per full pump... so i just do
3 pumps into my bucket without even moving the container and
im ready to go.

detergent cups are old news.

yes, minimaybee- that black thing is made out of plastic. and you should
use diminishing abrasives on that thing in a circular motion to get rid of
swirls..where for some unknown reason swirls keeps re-appearing on your
car because perhaps someone is not blot drying it! lol

I dunno when that was, but my first PC was purchased around October 2003--it wasn't my first orbital, but it was my first REAL orbital.

Explain to this newby just how you blot-dry and use Hydro?
I've two areas on my MINI that will swirl with out even touching them. One is the A-pillar and the second is the top of my back bumper. Doesn't matter if I never touch them or if I only use MF, they will begin to show swirling after a week of driving around town. This probably only occurs on my MINI because it is driven everyday around town - so much crap on the roads.

just another example of you not reading my posts... such a waste
of information going in one ear out the other. jk

i use carnauba on my hobby cars, remember? i use Hydro on my
commuters.

there are areas on the car that does swirl very easily. i just live with it,
my hobby cars are not show cars. as long as they look fantastic i don't
care.

Actually, don't forget that Hydro can be applied while the paint is dry and it becomes a swirl reducer/masker product.

http://www.showcardetailing.com/foru...ighlight=hydro

and

http://www.showcardetailing.com/foru...ighlight=amigo

I actually like to use Hydro in both ways--

Remember this picture???

Richard, have you found that using Hydro dry will hide more swirls than using it while the paint is wet? That boot picture is like my back bumper and A-pillar though probably not quite that bad. It is sure frustrating to detail and de-swirl, then within a week find swirls reappearing without so much as a wash in-between. That is why I usually save those two spots in particular for the day of a car show. I've yet to see swirls appear while the MINI is parked at a show - now that would be scary!

Absolutely! I like to think of Hydro as the "dual action spray wax" where you apply it on a wet car for protection and on a dry car for masking defects. I'm not sure what causes the swirling on the A-pillars either--except for maybe the constant abrasion of particles in the air?
