Professional Use of Prima Polishes

Just thought I'd share some insight on my latest experiences with Prima Cut and the Yellow cutting pad.

Can the PC remove sanding marks? I tested this using Prima's Cut polish and the Yellow Lake Country cutting Pad. The results were pretty good. While the sanding marks came out, some of the deeper sanding grooves took more work which the rotary with W7006 cutting pad and M84 took out with ease. For those that don't own a rotary buffer or fear it, the PC can provide a close substitute using the appropriate pads and chemicals. The primary difference would be in speed to achieve the same effect.

I found on a black Corvette at my clinic yesterday that 3 passes of Prima Swirl with an Orange pad on the PC was nearly equivalent to 1 pass of the rotary with W7006 cutting pad and M84. And of course those 3 passes were hologram free as well.

1 pass of M83 and W8006 pad on the PC had nearly no effect on the diamond hard Corvette paint. Just the same, the white polishing pad with Swirl had nearly no effect either.

OG, by 'hologram' do you mean kind of a cloudy looking spot in the shine/paint? My MINI came with cloudy spot about the size of my fist in the shine if you look at it just right. I'm hoping that the pc and stuff from DP will cure it. Ordered your video and new stuff from NAM by the way. Waiting for it to arrive...............

Thanks for the review and feedback, Richard!

I agree... although the rotary can do the job more quickly, it's nice for the enthusiast without a rotary to see just how much can be achieved with the PC, a dense cutting pad like the LC yellow, and a heavy abrasive like Cut. It may take more time, but is much safer for the non-professional (and even for many pros who don't have rotary experience!). Plus, like you said, no holograms to worry about!

Sorry for the delay--been swamped with BW.

I'm not exactly sure what a hologram is per se, but I can tell you what it looks like and how to get rid of them.

Here are some sample holograms--you can see tell why they are called holograms because they appear to jump out at you and they disappear from different angles. At the right angle they look like they are floating above the paint.

Yep, a PC with the right pad and chemical should knock them out. You can also use Hydro to mask them and make them disappear for awhile.

I thought holograms were artifacts of using a rotary in some cases - very, very fine micromarring (much finer than swirls) that causes the light to reflect/refract that way. That just a little final polishing with the PC takes out.

Yes? No?

That is true, but I've also seen holograms that were instill by hand. But yes, a PC will take them out.
