Other things to do & see, Atlanta to Dragon and back.

Hey gang. I've done almost no traveling south of VA except straight to the Dragon, and many trips (flown) to FL and the Caribbean.

I'm taking the folks on a road trip to Atlanta for a family wedding about a week and a half before MOTD. Looking for ideas on things to see for them.

I'm going to take them up the Dragon, probably around some of the waterfalls. Maybe the Cherholla (sp), maybe the Cherokee museum (anybody seen it?) and out to the Biltmore.

Any must see ideas around Atlanta? As for NC someone said Gatlinburg had a lot of neat little shops. I was through Pigeon Forge but we're not 'country' fans so much of that'd be a miss. I could even swing them out to the shore. Oh I did go to one of the NC beaches years ago, but it was desolate. Would be interested in a beach with a board walk and some 'honky tonk' to walk and watch. They're 69 and 70 but very able bodied & like to walk and sightsee. So white water's out but some walkings OK!

Thanks for any ideas!
Mark

P.S. I'll probably get back from this trip the Thur the 26th, do the Britain on the Green car show in Alex Sun the 29th, then head back down to the Dragon with the MINI on Mon the 30th!

If heading east has potential, then both Charleston and Savannah are beautiful, historic and cultured....

Road Atlanta

The 27th -29th there is an event put on by Classic Motorsport named The Walter Mitty. I was supposed to go - but I'm way to busy with dragon stuff. I think it's just the kind of show you would like Mark. There will be a MINI/Mini paddock and a lap for the group. I believe that the MINI/Mini part is sponsored by MINIUSA. Here's the link http://www.themitty.com/

Oh man! That is SO the kind of thing I'd be thrilled for! Unfotunately that'll probably be the three days I'm back up here!

Things I remember from Atlanta (and surrounding area):

Visit Stone Mountain, be sure to take the tram/gondola to the top. They have spectacular evening fireworks shows

Visit the "Varsity" - a greasy spoon, infamous burger place downtown near Georgia Tech.

Near Charlotte, NC, if you like NASCAR, visit www.raceshoptours.com - it's a tour of all the NASCAR teams' shops.

Near the Dragon, in Franklin, NC, definitely check out www.mountainglides.com. Her Segway tours are very suitable for fans of all ages. One tour route goes along the Little Tennessee River Greenway and some Cherokee burial mounds.

How about a jet boat experience in the Smoky Mountains? Check out http://excellent-adventures.net/jetboats/photos.html

Asheville also has the famous Biltmore estate and the North Carolina Arboretum.

Hope these help!

John
