[Sat, April 28 8:30 AM] Front Royal – Edinburg Run
[Sat, April 28 8:30 AM] Front Royal – Edinburg Run
Date: Saturday, April 28th. Please RSVP on the calendar. If more than you attending, PM MINInurse and she can note the additions.
Time Meet: 8:30 am – Time Launch: 9:00 am Starting Address: 4215 Winchester Road Marshall, VA 20115
Starting place: Step 1 - leave the DC area
, go west on I-66 to exit 27, Marshall (about 20 miles or so west of Manassas) – the Start is the BP Gas Station/McDonalds in Marshall. – Gas, Drinks, Snacks, and Bathrooms available.
Link to route sheet: Below.
Run Details: The plan is to stop once (quick) before we get to Front Royal, once at the approx turnaround point (Edinburg), and then end the run @ Spelunker's (http://www.spelunkerscustard.com/) in Front Royal (greatest Bacon Cavern Burgers in the known Universe). From there it's a quick and easy jump to the I-66 for folks to head home, actually from about Edinburg on we'll be within a few miles of I-81 or I-66, if people need to bail early. the first stop may or may not happen (depending on parking, # of cars etc.) but it's a grocery store (& thats all I'm saying). In Edinburg they have a large sports park sort of thing, batting cages video probably, and lots of parking. Probably won’t spend a huge amount of time here (schedule depending), it’s about the midway point., and they have a nice location with lots of parking. We should have time enough to spend a while poking around.
Route Details: Two attachments – 1st is the route, this is from Mapquest, (I really don’t trust it completely) I had to add all the town stops to hit the right roads, so we will not be stopping at all these towns, but cruising thru.
2nd is the the route map (I'll post it later today) it's a sad thing, I have a great VA road atlas, I copied a few pages, cut and pasted them together, and marked it up. Scanned it, but when printed, the copies are illegible. So I may have to resort to some pitiful copies of the route (on the board) until the day of the run, (I'll hand out good copies). If you are interested before then, PM me and I’ll either tell you or send a link of my scanned page, viewing is okay, printing tends to get ugly.
This should be, this time of year, a beautiful drive, lots of interesting stuff!
If the route will take 3+ hours, and we start @ 9:00, add an hour for unscheduled stops or delays. We can plan to end up in Front Royal @ Splunker's @ 1:00 - 2:00 or so.
Bring: Enough $$ for lunch (Spelunker’s menu in link), drinks, snacks whatever. And fuel. Camera, Radios (7/21), Sunscreen (if you’re driving a Cabrio, or Sunroof enhanced MINI.) Hat or Sunglasses (in case you need to look cool).
Like I said before:
Farms & Ranches
Fish Hatchery
Horses & Cows
Blue Ridge Grocery
Coffee, IceCream, or the best bacon burgers in the universe (mebbe all 3)
Terriffic Scenery
National Park
Wineries
Longhorns ?
Twisties too, not the Dragon, but cool nonetheless.

A Route Map (pathetic as promised) & Stop details
First of all, the map is attached.
Use your imagination and a magnifying glass.
Sorry, I'll pass out better copies on the day of.
I stopped @ our midway point today and locked that on.
It's actually a mile south of Woodstock, (not Edinburg) called:
A-way 2 Play http://www.a-way2play.com/index.html
They have:
Batting Cages
Miniature Golf
Driving Range
Go-Carts
Tanning Salon
Small Snack Bar (fountain sodas)
Pool Tables (1 Outside on a covered deck)
Air Hockey
Arcade Room
Ice Cream (soft serve)
Party Rooms
200+ seat Pavilion
Yikes, didn't know they had that much, nice and clean, and relatively new.
Check the link - they have a decent site, reasonable rates (I guess),
pack your wallets accordingly.
Everything else is as set as it can be at this point. I'll update this thread.

I am going to try to make this run, but I'm not sure if I will be able to. It is a long way for me to get to the starting point let alone doing the run and coming home too. If I don't make it I hope everyone has a great time, which you should!!!
yay yay.. 4/28.. that's my birfday... :-)

Hurray!! Not only a weekend I'm not working, but also a run close enough that getting up in the morning, and getting to the start point, isn't an issue!! Count me (and my better half passenger) in on this one.
Nice to see everyone can make it - This should be a nice day, unless the weather is, . . well like today.
If anyone has questions, please PM or email me or post them here.
Between now and then, in the interests of Safety and Route Research,
I may go out and see just how fast those go-carts are. I'll let you know.

Also on this day (I believe) is the British Classics Show in Alexandria. Will have more info but Capitol Mini Register will be gathering there that day for that so when you're done with the run swing by! Not sure if my little italian Mini qualifies though :( :(
Who cares if it qualifies - it's probably a better runner than 9 out of the 10 classic Mini's there. :-)
Britain on the Green is actually on Sunday April 29th. So you can do the Edinburg run Saturday and then visit the show on Sunday.

If you love British cars, you definitely don't want to miss Britain on the Green. Beautiful location and lots of incredible new and old British automobiles.

I had a conflict, but that means I can join in on this one!!
