How Many Runs?

How many runs do you guys want to do a month? The reason I ask is, is that we have the ability to do one run a week, but just how much driving do you all want to do? As it stands right now, there is at least one run a month (for the major driving months).
Some of our new members have expressed interest and are mapping out new runs for us to do and are wondering if we want to do more runs in a month.
Of course I want to see every weekend day of every week busy with stuff for us to do. There are also many other events we as a club can do, and want to, but I want your opinion in just how much you all want to do.

Voted... I'd like to see two or so. Not only because some months I'd like to DO two. But also because I like most of us do have interests beyond just the MINI including family obligations and sometimes they conflict. If there are two per month I've got better odds of doing at least one each month.

Now thats rare. There is a real poll on NAM...

I vote for 2. Although some others might want to do one every weekend. I can't I need time for doing other things.

I will gladly fill up the calendar as much as people want me to. That is why I put this poll up. I am just the coordinator. I want this club to become what you all want!

I'm not sure I understand the question. I look at it like this; DCMM lists X number of events being organized under its auspices (hence the insurance coverage). Some months I may choose to attend 2 events, the next month I may not be able to attend any but the following month, I may hit 15 events.

If the distribution of the organizing work on these runs is spread around to member volunteers as it is, then why does it matter if there are 10 runs a month? If no one signs up to attend, then our current system of RSVP's allows plenty of time to get the word out if a ride gets canceled. I would hope that this system will create more interest and participation from the membership. Lots of smaller, more localized events (i.e. the Catoctin Cherry Picking run out of Frederick and the Virginia Shenendoah event).

I vote for "Whatever the market will bear..."

I voted for three, so it wouldnt be all one sided.
Actually 2 per month and sometimes 3 would be cool.
If the partipation is good.

Well the question was how many runs do I want to do a month. That'd average two. I'd be happy to see 8 a month created and run that are all well attended, and I'd probably do two...

So I'd DO two,

And yes, create what the market will bear.

This is exactally what I want to hear. I need to be able to manage our calendar for what you all want. I am up for scheduling what ever people want..but I want to try to limit it to only one event a day so we don't leave anyone out or cancel events because another one 'took' over.
Now, the bigger question is going to be, if we do schedule say 2 driving events a month, who is going to take the lead on them?
I have a nice list which I will gladly post of your comments and requests for runs/events. I just need someone to 'roll' with them. I will dig up that list.
and here is anoter question...wanna do another run between Minis by the bay and MOTD?

I know there are more events that we can do, and we are going to be doing. I want an idea of what everyone wants and can fill in accordingly

Well, I can't do another run as I'm leaving on the 28th, but that's just me.

Maybe the trick is to be flexible - Spring and early Summer might be filled up due to MOTD and other big events aaaaand the weather is great for topless driving, sunroof, cabrio, or whatever.

January - maybe not so much.

Can always reschedule if an event gets cancelled due to lack of participation (has that ever been a problem?)

Or . . . establish a process that a new event will only be scheduled at least X number of weeks ahead to allow for members' schedules.

But then again, I'm new - what do I know? my .02

Dropping my tuppence...

When I was Event Coordinator, I tried to aim for one or two a month. More, and events didn't get much participation (10 cars or less). Less, folks starting becoming itchy for a drive.

Personally, I would have just the one or two a month, or if more are on the calendar, plan them to be smaller events. It really is depressing to an event planner of a run to put their heart and soul into setting up an event expecting a large turnout, only to have a couple of folks RSVP or show up due to an 'over-saturation' of events. But as I mentioned above, it would work out if the event was originally planned on being a smaller event.... Even my craziest ideas had at lest 5 or so MINIs show up!

Thanks Paul. Good points!
We have at least one large run/event planned for each month, so we are getting good there. Now we just want to fill up everything else!
I would be happy doing two driving events a month..I LOVE being part of a bunch of MINIs driving around..just so much fun!
I am hoping that if we do this, we can fill in with other gatherings that may or may not have driving involved. I just want to spend time with my good friends

Does this mean that if someone wants to coordinate and promote a run in a month that already has 2 rides scheduled that it won't be a DCMM sanctioned event and listed in the club's newsletter and event calendar?

Nope. I only ask that if you are planning an event...run or not...that you swing it by me or jay so we can check the calendar and make sure that day is open. This way, EVERYTHING can get put on the calendar, and EVERYTHING that you all want to do has a chance to be done.
It makes sense- we can put it on the calendar, we can sticky the thread, we can put it on the club's website, in the email newsleter, etc... We both have the ability to do all those things.
I'm not going to tell you that you CAN'T do an event that you really want to. Just remember that I want to make it so that ALL who want to join events can. I just put this poll up to gaguge where you all want to go, what you all want to do. Just because we decide to do a certain amount of driving events a month does not mean that we will actually get to do that ammount, nor does it mean that we can only do that amount.
I am trying to find ways to get more interest and to snag some more people into events, that's all.
Nothing DCMM sanctioned or not about it. If you would like to do a run/event, just run it by us and if there is a day free that you want it to be done..it gets done! BAM!!!

I think 2 runs/month is good. If we keep it to 2, than that opens up the calendar to do other things than runs like BBQs, charity events, DIYs, Tech Days, Go-Karts, ect....

I'm again not understanding what the issue here is. I don't see BBQs, charity events, DIYs, Tech Days, Go-Karts, or any other events being sacrificed because a fun run beat it to the calendar.

As a matter of fact, if someone put a barbecue on the calendar, I'd be tempted to put together a morning run taking the curviest route I could find to get to the said cookout!

I don't understand why we have to establish a maximum limit on group events. Hey- we even scheduled another event on the same day as the annual meeting and from what I gather, attendance was up this year.

Have there been any events cancelled because of a conflicting event?

There are a lot of concerts, shows, movies, parties, cookouts, etc that I would like to attend. I just toss DCMM events into the same pile and pick the ones that my schedule allow.

Feedback, perhaps we have a communication issue. What we mean be "run" is "driving event", not a social event. I have read your posts multiple times and I am trying to figure out why you do not understand. I hope this is why.

You and MiniNurse have done a phenomenal job getting us organized and used to using the club calendar to plan our activities.

MiniNurse's reply above seems to say it all. If I understand it correctly, to paraphrase- "if someone wants to organize an event, and it doesn't cause pain to someone else's priorly arranged event, than all is good. Just notify the event coordinators and they will post it".

If thats the case, then all is well... I don't care what arbitrary number is selected (2,3,or 4) as long as it is not used to discourage someone from putting together a run because 2 are already on the calendar for a given month.

Thanks again for doing the detail work!
