Still Need MOTD Rooms?

Late comer to MOTD this year and could not secure a room within an hour's drive. Being desperate I called all of Snooter's suggested lodging numbers and got nowhere. One number, the one for the Tuskeegee Motel was disconnected. I later found out the motel was not open yet for the season but the owners live in town and receive the motel mail daily so I wrote them a note asking for a reservation. I received a reply last night from the owners saying that they open for the season Friday April 6, and will not start taking reservations until then. Out of sheer luck I got a room at Fontana last week so I do not need a room but wanted to pass along a little intel to the group that if you still need a room on April 6 call the motel at 828-479-8464 early and you might get lucky.

There's also a place that rents some great cabins down Rt. 28 called Bates Cabins (website). I stayed at 'Archer's Lair' before, and it was incredible. And if you have enough people staying there, it's really cheap! For example, it's about $400 a night, but when it was split with 13 people (and there are 6 bedrooms in the cabin I stayed at, and amazingly enough, we didn't feel cramped!), it definitely worked out!

I'd like to set something up one year for a group of us to to stay there....
