Sorry, though you listed brake service as part of the $400, assumed that meant pads.

And yup, I only have one furnace vs. your 2 so... On the bright side it was already scheduled to be replaced Friday. So I just have to hope they aren't afraid of 1" of snow...

If you guys would like, I do have a decent detached garage to work out of if anyone wants to do a brake seminar of some sort, I'm sure we could do it at my place without a problem

Sucks to hear of your car problems, Katie... but I'm glad you're getting it fixed up. Would hate to think you didn't think it was worth fixing... unless of course you were simply going to upgrade to a newer model!

nah, I like my car too much...the 07 model didn't do anything for me. So I'll just keep on motoring in my dear old lil beast.
BTW..Mark, I hope your furnace guys were as nice and efficient as our were.
We have whole house heat again! YAY!

I'm actually curious too.

While I don't live where it's as extreme as you folks, we heat with propane/forced air (Hank Hill would love us) and we have an old furnace (1989) that is making stranger and stranger noises. Last time I got a quote with bells and wistles is was over $12k! I was freakin' shocked....

just under 3 grand for a 80% efficient Trane gas furnace, installed. I'd have to check the unit for the BTUs, but it's heating @1400 (I think)sq. ft.

I have my car back..YAY!
Sam had all the old parts to look at, and they were indeed in very bad shape. The bushings looked like they'd been through a meat grinder. I guess I was lucky my steering didn't fail. Both strut mounts were cracked...one very badly.
Anyhoo, Sam did me right, Tate paid for the new airbag and my dear, sweet husband paid for the rest.

Like a whole new car. I didn't realize what bad shape it was in, 'til I drove it home.

I think a lot of that is the front bushings...

they seem to be starting to go on a lot of cars. Mine are so bad that I can hear metal to metal rattling on bumpy roads! The new parts to fix it are on the table next to me.... But anyway, they seem to be a week point, or an early wear point.

If any of you want to check them on your car (I got this from k-huevo), here's how you do it. Jack up the car. Take off the tire. Compress the suspension a bit with a jack. Grab the control arm by the bushing and push in and out. If you can move it, they're in bad shape....

My car has almost 80k on it, and they've gone south in cars with less mileage.....

wow....

I think everyone had a bad January - I hope February bodes better. I still haven't received my insurance check from my burgarly.

However, someone is smiling upon me - went to Beast Buy yesterday and ended up picking up a Sony 32 XBR LCD flat panel for $1,100. The model I wanted that was cheaper wasn't in stock and the sales guy took $500 off the retail price.

I was happy!
