Le Sigh! Part 2

So I'll steal a title from Paul that sums up my day.

Today I arrived home for my mid-day Krut/Cooper bonding time when I noticed that my blind was blowing OUT my window and there was a hole about the size of my head in my window pane.

My hackles went up - called 911 - 911 says don't go in in case the intruder is still in your house. I'm not hearing Cooper (the Dog) at this point so I'm a little freaked out.

MPD are here in about four minutes flat - sirens blaring - they say.. don't go in. Then Cooper starts barking like holy hell. I relax a little bit.

Police dog arrives, clears the building, no one inside.

The damage and articles taken:

1. window pane broken
2. IBM ThinkPad T-23 (I'm going to miss you old friend)
3. Dell Inspiron 1505 (maybe it was a blessing in disguise)
4. Sony LCD FLat Panel HD TV that I just received in a warranty settlement two months ago.

My building manager is awesome. Before the foresic policeman got here - she had her maintenance guy ready to take out my window, get the pane replaced and had my windows measured for bars.

Things I've learned:

1. Crap can be replaced
2. Cooper the dog is priceless - I'm thankful he's ok.
3. Never forget to set your home alarm system.
4. I have an addiction to TV - maybe this will get me over it. :-)

I am very sorry to hear this. Yup, things can be replaced. When I lived on a bottom floor apartment, someone smashed the bedroom window and stole a small jar of silver quarters (probably used the in the laundramet).

It makes for feeling very uneasy and vulnurable. But I got to ask, your dog isn't exactly small. His barking, I assume inside the house, didn't stop the thieves????

I know all dogs are different, some very friendly, like goldens and labs.

He's crate trained during the day - the MPD officer said most likely if CTD (Cooper the Dog) had been roaming free around the house they wouldn't have bothered.

Damn, that sucks Kurt... Did you have decent home insurance that will cover the valuables?

Very happy to hear that CTD is OK.

I think I'm over insured but the deductable is $500.00 - I have an inland marine policy that covers the laptops, and my homeowners insurance will most likely cover the TeeVee and the associated damage less the $500 deductible.

I don't know if I would've been more pissed if the Cooper had been violated or my home.

I'm feeling a little mellower now that I've had two beers.

Sorry to hear about the incident Krutty.

Homeowners insurance should cover everything, don't settle for less.

UGH!!! That sincerely sucks. Luckily, everything you mentioned should be covered. The important thing is that Cooper was ok, as it is a bit more difficult replacing living, loved creatures! Everything else can be replaced, and hopefully with little trouble.

(And good to hear that DC's finest responded in a very timely manner!!)

Sorry to hear about the bad news but things could've been A LOT worse. My newest one just finished all of her training so now I have two four legged friends patroling while I am away. The NRA stickers help as well. They better have something a lot bigger then what I have!

I honestly consider myself lucky.

I would've been very upset if they had broken in - let the dog out and then trashed my place.

Unfortunately I can't get a handgun in DC. I do believe I can get a shotgun - not sure on the District laws on guns. That said, I do have a MAG flashlight that I use as a "billyclub" should the need arise to protect myself.

So have they questioned Cooper yet? Can he identify the intruder?

I'm so sorry to hear that happened! I just am glad, as the rest of us are, that CTD didn't get hurt! I can TiVo things for you if you want
Glad also that the building manager was on top of things and got that window fixed quickly. Last night was NOT a good night to not have solid walls

Huge Bummer!!! It's good news that Cooper was still there. I think its time to equip him with a Cooper-Collar-Cam!

The property can be replaced.

Hint, offer to pay a couple of kids on the block to let you know who's talking about and showing off a new flat panel TV that they're going to watch the superbowl on.

Unfortunately, I believe Krutty lives behind a clinic which has an alley, often travelled by vagrants, seperating his building from the clinic. His huge glass window faces the alley, and makes it a pretty big target.

His condo is pretty nice, and I'd hate to see bars put on it... But you gotta do what you gotta do.

BTW, I hope there wasn't too much data on those drives. :( I remember you used to run your business off of your lappy's.
