[Mon, Feb 26 @ 7pm-???] MoS R56 MINI Kick-off SPECIAL EVENT
I might not be able to make this event, but today I was at MoS and I got to test drive the R56 S. Actually quite nice! It felt solid and had good pull. It may have lost a bit of "MINI-ness"....but overall still a great car. I think it's still WAY too soon to tell what the tuners and modders will be able to come up with though. More than anything though, the one thing that stood out for me as a negative, was the new center console controls for radio, A/C and toggles. I really prefer the more spacious design of the Gen I downtubes and DIN sized components.
I will try to make it up that way, depending upon 2 things. 1) the weather, if it is still nasty and snowing I might not come up and 2) (the most important) if my baby is out of the shop or not. The shop is saying it will be done tomorrow as long as they get the correct part from Tate (who sent the wrong lower vallance last week). So fingers crossed I will be there.
Hope you feel better Katie!
To the Wegmann's crowd. I for one will be wearing my DCMM badge on a Lanyard if anyone's coming that doens't know all the 'regulars' faces. I expect everyone to get their food and just meet up upstairs at the tables.
When you reach the top of the steps there is seating to the right down the side of the store, and to the left across the front. Go to the left and back a ways, there's a sorta room back that way with more tables arranged for larger groups.

Well, I didn't manage to get out of my office dinner thing until about 8:30pm... I decided to go check it out anyway, even though it's late. I figure... it started at 7, it will probably go until at least 9, right? (Even though the dealership normally closes at 8)
I get there around 8:50pm - locked and empty. Darn!
I hope you all had fun - it looked cool to see 5 or 6 R56 MINIs in the main showroom.
I wish I could have gotten out of the work dinner, but it was important - my boss and a bunch of bigwigs were there, so face time was key!

Yeah. Work called and said go buy a new uniform now, and have it ready by wednesday. $50 pants, $50 shirt, and $40 in cleaning & sewing to have it ready by tomorrow.
Then I got a haircut which consisted of (starting at 6pm) 1 hour of waiting, and 1 hour getting a cut.

Went. Saw only about 4-5 DCMM members that I already knew which surprised me. They had a decent but much lighter turnout than I expected.
This was the first I saw the 2007's in person. The less complex hood shape front end change bothered me even more in person than in the photos. I mean if the 1st Generation never existed and these came out I'd be happy, but given the choice... I prefer the more deeply rounded 01-06 nose. Just a matter of personal taste.
Oh and some early production mistakes. The superchargers were missing on the S's and all the engines were put in backwards.
(The 07 engines are turned around 180 degrees for those who didn't get that)
