Clock gone crazy

Anyone have issues with the clock in the car? Ours has recently gone crazy.... literally jumps ahead at random intervals of time or decides to go backwards. Is this a small sign of a bigger electrical problem to come? Used to own an Audi, and the small things like this always led to bigger issues. I'm hoping one of you will tell me "Its just the clock stupid, don't worry about it!"

Thanks!

Glenn

Like it skips ahead a few minutes?? I've heard of the clocks running fast but not skipping around.

You sure you don't have a flux capacitor in the back there?

All kidding aside, mine usually falls behind by a minute or two. I've had reset to the right time twice in the past 9 months.

Mine did that too about a month after I took delivery and I reset it about 4 times and knock on wood it has not done it again! The dealer did say if it kept doing it after resetting to bring it in but luckily I didnt have to do that!

It literally jumps ahead a few hours at certain times or falls behind by groups of minutes. Just started doing this, and it happens frequently now. I'll try resetting and see what happens.

I was wondering if I had finally figured out how to manipulate the space time continuum... maybe today is really tomorrow... or is it yesterday? hmmm

Is your MINI an '04 or earlier (ie, you have the clock on the headliner)? If so, it's probably just the clock went bad. Should be an easy fix by the dealer.

My clock is screwy, too! It is never correct, it gains at least 5 minutes a week. I remember last year, I didn't even have to change the clock when we left daylight savings time because I was running an hour fast, anyway....

Every now and then it bugs me (or someone riding in my MINI) and I manually reset it... only to have it gain again. I've given up on it.

I guess at least mine doesn't randomly jump around!

See the tripmeter? The one you can reset inside the speedometer? Instead of holding down the reset button, just push it quickly. It will change "modes" from tripmeter to clock. There's your clock.

I have the exact same problem. I think it is not uncommon in '05s. I have absolutely no other problems with my MINI *knocks on wood*. I didn't have my dealer fix it, since I was afraid they'd just screw up something else while messing around in there.

if I set my clock to the cell phone time... it always is one-minute behind.... even if I set it to some wacky time... makes me think the clocks are sync'd or something....

My MINI's clock regularly gains five minutes every month. It's actually a pretty easy fix, they just replace the speedo (for those that have the clock in the speedo). I just haven't gotten around to doing it, but I will with my next service. Just call up your SA and explain the problem.

My clock used to gain time every month. I had it replaced by Tate before they revoked my warranty. No issues since, except the big hole Tate left in my AC condensor and tried to blame me for.

my clock is typically about 12-15 minutes fast at the end of a 30 day cycle. slightly amazing with a new car that they dont keep time very well. thats why i check the cell phone time. never fails me! and switches time zones automatically.

Holy cow! I thought it was just me. The clock died on my way to NJ. I reset it twice to no avail. I finally got to a point where I turned off the car, came back and the clock set itself back plus the time I tried to make it jump forward. I haven't gotten around to setting it back to the right time, but it only happened the one time. I have the exact same chrono package too.

It depends on the year of your MINI.

Clock woes

Me too! - '05 with chrono pack. Mine is consistently behind by 2 or 3 minutes, even after resetting.

with the clock displayed on the speedo/tach you hold down the button (the one that selects between clock and trip odo). It will change over to the first selection that lets you choose 12/24 hour time, press the button to select between the two. When the one you want is displayed don't press the button and just wait a few second, the display should then change to hour selection. Again, press the button to set the hours, wait a few seconds to set it. Then minute setting comes, press the button to set the minutes, wait a few seconds and it will set. Now the clock is all set.

Why does MINI hide their clocks? The one in the speedo is usually hidden by the tripodometer, and the one in the earlier models, in the headliner...who looks up there for a clock!?

Actually, why do you even need a clock in a car now. Most people have cell phones and they have clocks, that's why I rarely use a watch.

It not safe to dig through your pocket to get your cell phone just to see what time it is as your barreling down I-95 though.
