It seems that the "oops" site is updated better than the original site.

Hey if you all need to renew your subscriptions...

the paypal link is working PRETTY DAMN GOOD!! Now if Ravana can design me a really kickbutt template we'll be all squared away!

I am not sure if you guys are already using it, but that would be kinda nice for a weekly update and once in a while notices could go out manually.
Our hosting service HAS a newsletter plugin already, but it's not configured.

That's correct as well as some other crazy good stuff that you, me and Haemish need to sit down and sort through and figure out what we want to use. For now the site is back up in minimal functionality mode. It's not too pretty (yet) but at least it works!

Thousands of mailing lists already exists. You can set the options to receive every email, a daily list of all emails, or no email (just read the website)

Its FREE. Free is good. No hassle, you want the emails, you just sign up

BTW, Events can be posted there too on the common calendar
We moved off a Yahoo group (actually two of them) to come here to NAM, we outgrew Yahoo and it had it's own shortcomings...

The club already maintains an e-mail list, when you sign up for the club your e-mail address is collected, managing it isn't a problem. When I was President I sent out a few mass mailings to the membership.

There are a few things that could be done to alleviate the communications problem (and stay far away from a Yahoo Group).
  1. UPDATE THE WEBSITE! It doesn't need to be fancy, it just needs to be kept up to date. Maybe run the whole thing off of WordPress or something. Running it off of a blogging program has the added advantage of RSS feeds for those that use them...
  2. Teach members how to subscribe to the forum here on NAM. This will generate an e-mail once a day whenever a thread is updated in the DCMM forum here on NAM or a new thread is created in the DCMM forum on NAM. They can see the thread subject and go directly to the thread. Members don't need to come to NAM daily to find out what's going on, only when an event is posted or updated... And they'll know when it happens.
  3. Use the e-mail addresses we have... Send out an event update to the membership with the details on all the upcoming events. It doesn't have to be fancy, and it shouldn't go out more than once a month.
  4. Submit the club events to the eventcast on White Roof Radio. db and I publicize the events that are sent to us... DCMM hasn't submitted a single event... ever...

Have to second Mike B on this. The Yahoo group thing turned into a big messy mess and was more frustrating than it was worth. That was how we ended up here. And our membership has grown by over 100% since. It was a good place to start DCMM, but as we got bigger it did not do what we needed it to do.

Krut just about has a new website built for us. It should debut very soon, if it has not already. It'll have a calender and be kept up to date with event information and hopefully members will start to use it instead of avoiding it.

We're up on WordPress...

It's not as pretty as I'd like - http://www.dcmetrominis.org but I'm going to work with one of the members to get a DCMM specific template. As far as added functionality - with WordPress you have to be careful of which items you add (like calendaring or photo display) because it can reek havoc on your pages, changing formatting etc.
