Cooter's Run

Hey all, I was looking at our website and decided to look at the past events. There was one on 4/26/03 called Cooter's Run. It sounded like fun and was wondering if we could do this in the future.

I believe that Cooters is actually closed down. That Cooter's drive was the site of the first DCMM exhaust shoot-out. That run was a lotta fun, with lots of great back roads out in the VA farm/horse country....

It's a great run, but yes Cooters is now closed...

The run could be done again, but the route would need a few tweaks...

MINI of Sterling or Wegmans make good meeting points, but with the amount of construction that has been done on Waxpool, Ox and in the general areas around Sterling, it might be a good idea to look at a new start point, otherwise the drive could start off pretty boring...

Also instead of ending the drive at Cooters, keep heading up US 211 to Skyline drive... Catch lunch over at Skyland Lodge, the food is good, and they had no problem accomodating our crowd with advance notice...

Other tweaks could be a run down one of DCMM's favorite roads... ATOKA!

I was driving back roads home from Winchester last weekend, and drive right by this road and LAUGHED for miles thinking about past runs.

RIP in Cooters - we were one of the last events they did out there. They pulled up roots and moved down towards Gatlinburg TN. However, those roads were very good - we should do another run there.

Heh, that was my run! Ben Jones, aka Cooter and his wife Alma are long-term friends of one of my clients. When I told him about MINIs he offered the restaurant as a destination. It was great, all the MINIs lined up next to one of the General Lees. Unfortunately, the weekend we were there, Ben was away, but Minh and Mike (of Mike and Donna fame) got to meet him when we tested out the trip. I probably have the route instructions in word format somewhere on a hard disk.

Ben decided to close that Cooters because he had opened one in Tennessee and was spending more and more time there. Also the Cooters on Route 29 wasn't making so much money anymore, and the new Dukes movie didn't really help that situation at all.

Is there a place to post route files, I will dig this one up.
Mike
