Me Daveoc and Hapa made it home eventually. Seemed to take forever - we left at 700 am - filled up in Maryville TN, by around 900 am and then rolled into DC around 6 pm. Only stopped a couple of times - I swear I-81 is the worst interstate to drive on - most likely because of all the truck traffic on it. We had to re-route around Rt11 one time because of an accident (the first of many we would encounter).

I-66 was a disaster for us - we encountered (get this) and electrical fire on I-66 - wires down on the road and we could smell the burning - so we had to route through some country roads - through Rt. 55 and then back on to I-66 where we encountered the second wreck of the day (a three car pileup) and then encountered the third wreck of the day (a four car pileup) right before the Beltway.

Only one casualty from the drive back

Anyone got a blowdryer so I can get this evil thing off?

Me too.

Left around 9:45, got home around 8:30. Only problem was a backup of 15-20 miles on 81. Finally trusted the GPS and took Rt11 for aobut 15 miles to bypass. Didn't come across any accidents. The triip felt REALLY long coming back for some reason.

This time my trip involved no tow trucks and no 3 hours accidental side trips.

James and I also got home safely. We (scavenger, miniNurse, and mwaldman) also hit the backup on 81, but trusted mwaldman's gps to get us around it) Luckily we did not hit any accidents, but driving on the beltway sucked - why do people not want to stay in their lane?

Dude that sucks. If that happend to my new vinyl...OH boy I would be PISSED. I have a blowdryer, but I feel I live too far away to just drop it by. Go buy a cheapie from the store. I can't believe that.

WHY was the drive so freaking LONG on the way home. We can't believe it took us 11 hours. That was sucky. Next year, I may leave with you guys....

Was it the dealership that installed it? If so, go back and bitc... er, complain! You could probably have them do it again free or at a reduced price.

I have a heat gun you could borrow, if you want to run down to P'cola and pick it up!

Paul!, hope everything is going well. You know those black mirror caps that you gave to Scavenger, well they became ours and now we don't need them. They are now going to big_davoc. Perhaps we should start a Paul! BMC Owners Club Signature logo.

Yep, so far, so good. I've got a record as of now of 90%, 85%, and 85% on my first tests. These however, are just review!: eek2: We don't start learning 'new' stuff until next month or so. Hopefully it'll go well!

As for the caps, wherever they end up, I hope the owner enjoys them!

In other news, I got all excited yesterday, as I found an EB '05 MCS parked next to me in the morning! Hopefully, it's a friendly MINI driver!

Well, off to school...

I got home ~7:30 last night after leaving the Fontana at ~10am. Katie and I were caravanning for a little while. I think she ended up stopping somewhere around Staunton and got dinner. Not sure what her plans were from there. I was just going to power through and get home and finally sleep in my own bed.

Hi kids...I'm home too...just rolled in about an hour ago. I spent the night in Staunton and hit the road about 9AM. No backups, fires, accidents..zip. Sorry y'all had such a bad time of it .
Anyhoo, another Dragon under my belt. Was fun, but too much work for some, I think. I can't wait to read the feedback...hope it's good.
See you guys soon..big hugs!

Captain Krutaroo has had a promotion to "rear admiral captain Krutaroo" (that was his rank request), after he cleverly bypassed 2 accidents with exiting the slick-way's and taking small roads around the disasters.

Thanks krut as if we didnt I am sure our 11 hour trip would of been over 12 hours long.

We took a round-about way and got home Tues ~15:00. The Foothills Freeway and the Parkways from Cherokee into VA were heavily fog, especially above ~4500 ft. Even with the fog, the Parkway beats I81.

We avoided the I66 traps and took I81/US340 thru Winchester & CharlesTown into Frederick, then I70 & MD32 to home.

Elizabeth did a lot of the driving, and seems to like the MINI now. I wonder if I have lost a car?

MOTD was a great weekend even if I didn't get to eat or get any Ice Cream Sat. nite because of number calling duties.

Left at 8:30, stopped for 30 minute IHOP break in Knoxville.

Powered through to Woodstock, VA and had supper at Cracker Barrel, did some shopping, gassed up, and got my Dunkin Donuts coffee... An hour and fifteen minutes later we were back on the road, drove into DC, gave Krut back his chilled wine , and after 30 minutes were back on the road.

So about 2 hours and 15 minutes worth of stops, and we got home just before 8:30pm, making it about a 9 and a half hour trip. Not bad, but very long and boring.

We did the same thing with GPS guidance. It actually worked very well.
