The Italian Job ride - KD in 2006!

Chris K from DCMM, his roommate Jay, and myself went to Kings Dominion yesterday. They had a few banners promoting the Italian Job ride for 2006! I assume it will be ready in time for the spring/summer . Didn't look like they started construction yet. Of course this ride is currently available only at King's Island in Ohio but next year we'll be able to ride it much closer to home .

Hopefully there will be another Mini event to help open it. I missed the last one because my wife was out of town, and I didn't want to drive all that way solo.

What happened at the last one promoting the first Italian Job. BTW - Just saw the movie last week for the first time. Although, it came on half-way through - JUST IN TIME to see the MINI car chase. Hawtness, I tell ya.

I did a write-up with some pics in the Travel Stories section.

Part I

Part II

I'd be interested in following along with any developments towards a MINI opening! If someone contacts the park, maybe tell them how much of a success the event was in Ohio.

Is anyone from DCMMs involved yet?

Has anyone from DCMMs pursued the idea with KD or MINI about an event and seeing how we can be involved/support the activites? We would be a natural resource and enthusiastic, I would think.

If no one's pursued it yet, I'd be happy to make some phone calls. I just don't want to step on anyone's toes or get in the way if something's already being planned.

Can one of the DCMM officers jump in here with a response?

Thanks,

John

Hopefully they can pull it off better than the folk at King's Island. That one didn't seem to be any kind of organized. To be fair though, the ride was fun.

We were just making it easier for future events to look better.

No, and I kinda forgot about it! I sent an email a while ago, and never heard anything. I'll have to start making some calls.

Does this mean you have a connection that can help us figure out a way to organize a MINI event around the opening or get tied into any efforts already under way?

hahaha i wish...i think the park just sent him an email survey or something...he's probably on some kind of mailing list...actually i can try and figure out something...my senior year of high school for a project for one of my classes, my friend and i were trying to organize a 'grad night' type deal and we sent letters and stuff to local amusement parks. and we sent one to them...granted they didn't send anything back/call us back for several months, but i sort of know the process if you needed help...(this was 5 years ago, so i'm not that far removed from remembering how to go about it)

Any further info on this event yet? I know the ride won't open for a while yet, but we've got some folks in the Carolinas wanting to participate when it does happen.

criminy, organizing next year's dragon is enough for now. Perhaps the next president of DCMM will want to get something going.

Great news MiniCooperMike! Thought you should know though that The Italian Job Ride is also at Paramount's Canada Winter Wonderland outside of Toronto - went there this past Summer.

Thanks, Paul. Let us know if you happen to find out anything. Even an approximate opening date would be helpful in planning out the calendar. Judging from the PKI response, the KD IJ opening could be one of the major events of the summer for the mid atlantic states. I just don't want to start working on another event that might conflict with it.

Well Dang it - it figures - we move and now there will be something cool at KD...I guess we'll have to add it to our list of "things to do" when we come back to visit...

A little FYI here....I just got off the phone with a person up at KD. They told me the park opens April 1st and the IJ ride is supposed to be up and running at that time. I didn't catch the name of who I talked to, but the number I called was 804-876-5561.
