We are in DC now and he will be able to do the pulleys on the same time as you guys are having your meet, as he figured that would be the best opportunity for anyone wishing to have it done. You can feel free to wait on Randy Webb but if I would be you, I would prefer paying $350 compared to the overpriced $420 that Randy charges. I think Steve has brought 5 pulleys with him this trip.

Actually, I charge $400 installed with our exclusive warranty included beyond the parts and labor.

Warranty Info

I'm sorry if you feel that's overpriced. It seems fair market value, and we have done more than double anyone else in the world as far as I know. Most are charging $250-400 in labor, and you go to them. I charge $280 and go to you!

Hope that helps

Randy

PS - I am going to be at the AC-DC install

Randy,

Maybe I should PM you on this, but maybe someone else has a curious question similar to this. I've been wanting the M7 16% reduction pulley installed in my '02 MCS. A lot of people say to get the 15% for starters, but EVERYONE has that and I was sort of trying to go for something that not a lot of people have. Anyhoo, I know you could install it, how much would you charge since I'm purchasing from another vendor? Is there anything else that maybe I should consider getting a hold of - like spark plugs, wires, etc?

Thanks!

I actually sell it as well. You could purchase it from me or the other vendor. With that pulley, I use a new belt, and I charge $450 for the install, part and belt.

If you get the pulley somwhere else, I do the install for $280 plus the belt. Let me know what you want - selling the stuff is what makes new MINI development possible!

Hope that helps!

Good Help!

Yes, thanks! Actually, someone PM'd after I posted that and said that you actually sell it too. And cheaper! From what I gather, it'd be the same price if I bought it from someone else and you installed it or if I just purchased from you all together. Plus, getting your warranty and everything is better in the long run, I think

I"d like to know why all the interest in having someone come from outside our area. It must be a social thing as they charge the same thing that brick and mortar companies charge in the area. How long has Curry's been in business? I've been in business since 1983 and in the business for 35 years. I don't see the advantage with going to out of town people especially for something as simple as a pulley install. Those of us who are in business in this are support our local organizations. We're here for all your needs and have invested large sums of money to be able to offer all the services that we do. Most of the people doing these pulley parties were not even in business when the Mini came out. Think about it

Mr. Behe,

Could tell us which pulleys you install/recommend and why? Perhaps knowing that will encourage some of the people that are contemplating getting pulleys to come your way.

Another suggestion

Even though you're local, why not host a "pulley party", etc of your own? I think part of the other attraction is being able to get together with fellow MINI owners at the same time. This community seems quite social and the "parties" may be backdrops for some fellowship and fun.

I wouldn't mind seeing a list of local "MINI Enthusiasts" shops. I recall reading about one gentleman in Maryland (Glenwood??) but that's about it. Are there more places to take your MINI?

I also would love to locate a paint/body shop that wants to do wheel arches/trim pieces, etc that has a good reputation.

John

I am the guy in Glenwood and have hosted several events for various car clubs this past year. The topics have always been designed to provide my fellow members with as much information possible about the vehicles they own. I've even shown people at these tech days how to do alot of the simpler things like oil and filter changes themselves. We actually covered the question of the pully change at one of events. The use of different size pullies to optimize the performance of engine driven components has been around as long as the automobile. This is an area where we have some expertise as it is an essential part of race engine building and design and an area where we have enjoyed some sucess over the last 21 years. I have installed quite a few of all the different size pullies that are available and actually tested a few on our own car before we started selling them to our customers. The 15% seems o be the most popular for no more reason than that they get more positive press on the internet sites. My research indicates that the limiting factor for pulley diameter has more to do with the limitations of the drive belt radius. We have seen very few problems with the 17% other than belt related. I have not personally seen any cooling sytem/waterpump issues with street driven vehicles. We keep al the pullies in stock and do the job on a wait basis.

That's JBEHE (John Behe)
Glenelg Service Center

He was at MINI Mania 2 over the weekend. Although he had to leave in the afternoon.

That sucks. I forgot to find and meet him, though I saw the SSC on the trailer.

Yeah, I had hoped to meet him as well, but all I saw was an occasional blur on the track!

Mr. Behe,

Actually, I have been in business since the very first MINIs came out. We did most of the development on the supercharger pullies - before JCW stuff in fact.

I have done over 650 now, and have been to over 20 cities, and not one of my customers has had an issue. I don't seem to understand where the beef is now that there is money in it, whereas before, when I was the only one going to people's door, on request I may add, no one had any problems.

I applaud you for working on the MINI, and hosting events at your shop. I do the same here in Denver. I also provide a service for my customers, who are nationwide, by attending these events which are organized through clubs and customers only by request. I have never held an event that wasn't asked for by someone.

I have been building my customer base nationally since the MINI was new - my approach is not a new thing - I have been doing this all along, and have been to the DC area twice before.

I know it is a social event, as well as a tech session. I also provide a warranty for 2 years/24,000 miles. I would be happy to talk with you, as I am trying to set up a nationwide dealer network right now. You sound like a true enthusiast.

Please understand that my intent is not to take business from you, but to support my customers.

Hope that helps, and I hope we may even be able to work together!
