a little piece of flimsy plastic that denotes a certain amount of "power" to an event. usually these are the driving events. some people, ie Jen, use clings in place of window tints.

those waiters and waitress people out there might recognize it as flair, some people might recognize it as a flimsy piece of plastic, others might recognize it as just another little toy.

Haha..flair....reminds me of Office Space.

So these clings are just to say i.e. Jen is who we follow during events?

I need to talk to you about your TPS reports....

anyway, the time running out thing was more about disclosing the route and other information related to the event.

Actually they're like collecting T-shirts from every place you've been. Just a little momento of the drive.

As for Jen, I think she also collected stickers as a kid too...

*If* I/we do clings, it won't be ready in time for the event. I've got to find a place closer than Frederick, MD to get them done!! Frederick is just too far away.

Janelle said that she wanted to draw something up, I'll see if she still plans on doing that.

Hey Paul!,

Bonnie and Trey are in. It's been a while since we have attended an event. I'm looking forward to it.

I hope it's not to late

I'm new to NAM and considering joining DCMM. I would like to make this my first event, but I have a prior commitment that morning. So, does anyone have an idea what time you will be arriving at the A&W. I could possibly meet up with everyone at the end point and introduce Oswald (and myself too).

It depends on when we finish eating, how fast we drive, how lost we get ( ), etc., but I would guesstimate between 2 and 3 PM. If you want, you can give me a call at 571-594-3355 in the early afternoon to get a better estimate of what time we'll arrive. I'll also post the exact location of the A&W tonight!

Update!

The restaurant has finally been decided on! It will be Thursday's Bar & Grill in North Beach, MD. (Website) I will upload a menu later on tonight / tomorrow. The food is American, leaning a bit towards seafood. Everyone should find something they like, though! The prices range from a few bucks for a sandwhich platter to $20+ for a full 'surf & turf' meal.

Due to the restaurant size though (we will be taking over most of the only dining room!), I'm actually going to have to stick to the RSVP date, and I cannot accept any more RSVP's. I hate to do this, but the group is getting too large! I will compile a RSVP list from emails and this thread tonight and post it in the top post. If there's any mistakes, just PM me or shoot an email over to events@dcmetrominis.org.

Can't wait 'til Sunday!

-Paul!

PS - Look for a full top post update later tonight!

Clings decorate your car and are a testament to where you have been and where you might go in the future. I am fond of them, as you will see if you ever see my MINI.

You can follow me during events if you like, although I tend to sweep so no one is supposed to be behind me. We follow the event leader or route planner.

For the record, never collected stickers as I kid. Probably collected everything else.

Isabelle is usually so grossly dirty that people can look at the clings on the window and not noticed the grime.

It ends at the A&W (Giant is across the street) where 301 intersects 4, just outside of Upper Marlboro. You led an impromptu event from the Giant once. And as you figured out, It's the North Beach location!

Radio's are not required for any of our runs, but they are highly recommended. They are used to pass safety and other information to the group. If you don't have a radio with you, you will miss these announcements. There is also a possibility that somebody may have a spare radio for you to borrow.

If you decide to buy a radio (or probably a set as they almost always come in pairs) here are a few things to keep in mind:
  • DCMM and most other MINI groups use channel 7 sub channel 21, make sure that any radio you purchase supports sub channels or privacy channels. Radios that don't support sub-channels kinda work, we can hear you talking, but you can't hear us.
  • In my experience when it comes to radios, you get what you pay for. While many people have the $30/pair radios and are happy with them, I've never had a set of them last me more than a few months. Decent budget priced radios should run ~$55-$60, if you want to go a bit more high end you still really shouldn't spend more than $99.
  • Handsfree microphones are BAD! They seem like a really good idea at first, however the sensitivity of the microphone is a major issue. Too low and your breathing will key the microphone, too high and it won't key when you speak or it won't stay keyed while you speak. Odds are a handsfree adjusted to key when you speak will also key when your car radio is on. A stuck microphone like this jams the frequency and prevents us from using the radios as intended (and makes it impossible for you to hear us calling you!), it also has a tendency to broadcast to the group comments that you make that you might not have wanted everybody to hear
Went out yesterday and purchased a Motorola GMRS 2-way radio. It's charging now, so by Sunday I will be set See y'all on Sunday!

Ok, posted the RSVP list above. Check it over and send me a note if there's any corrections. Also, today I did a final test of the route, and it's all looking good! I was hoping to be able to type it up and post it tonight, but it's late, and I'm tired! I'll have it up tomorrow!

Also made a correction to the McDonalds directions, and added how to get there from the Annapolis area.

I think I am going to try to go home early today and wash Isabelle. At least get the dirt enough off the windscreen that I can see.

Paul, dropped you a note. Michael and I will both be there on Sunday. Two MINIs.

Anyone else coming up for crabs tomorrow? I updated the post below with the reservation information and directions. They have about a dozen people from NEMINI coming down. So far it looks like me, Paddy and Matt are going.
