WANTED: MINI Cooper/driver for hire

Hi guys, I'm posting this for a friend. Yes, I have what she's looking for, but alas, I'll be out of town that weekend. Yes, this is for the DC Metro area. Would anyone be able to help her out? Please respond to the craiglist email address listed. Thanks!

Wanted: Mini Cooper as wedding transportation on May 28 - $60

Reply to: anon-74220904@craigslist.org
Date: 2005-05-19, 12:22PM EDT

I'm looking for someone with a Mini Cooper to drive my husband and me and our lovely photographer around for 2 hours while we take pictures in between our ceremony and reception. It would be a surprise for my guy, who loves Mini Coopers. Any color okay (his fav is red!). A convertible top would be awesome, but not required. This would be around 5-7 pm on Saturday, May 28.

Email ASAP if interested and I can provide plenty more details! Thanks!

Odd, this exact same post popped up a few months ago... Lots of questions asked about the practicality of 3 adults riding in a MINI when one of them is in a wedding dress...

The bizarre thing is me being a female, was thinking just the other day how cute it would be to do the same thing when I got married, front seat overflowing with tulle.

I didn't say practical. Cute and practical are often on different sides of the page.

Sitting in the car would be one thing... Trying to drive the car would be another.... I think you need to tell you friend that this just isn't a real good idea. Plus one of the two of them (probably the groom) will have to crawl into the back seat, and for the bride to have to climb in back also (if she want's to ride with her new hubby) will probably leave both of them uncomforatable and carry a high risk of damage to her dress.

Your friend needs to come up with Plan B.

Maybe pictures in the MINI, but not a ride in it...

Or they need to get another car for the photographer. If her dress isn't huge the 2 of them might be OK, but definitely no room for anyone else

That's what I've suggested as well. Perhaps the hubby could drive them separately and have the MINI driver follow them around for a bit.

Here is YuccaPatrol and his lovely bride, Elizabeth, in his BRG/W MCS which sndwave and I decorated for his wedding last Sunday, May 15th.

We used tulle to make a center shelby-esque stripe, with white satin ribbon pinstriping (ribbon says "our wedding" in silver), and a huge white gift bow placed just above the scoop. White silk flowers on the front rack uprights, the sideview mirrors, and the rear hatchwindow wiper, with tulle bows and streamers, and a "Just Married" window flag modified to fit onto the antenna!

It looked like a pretty little bridal giftbox!

Here's the original post...

We're not doing fancy limos for our wedding at all, but my fiancé loves Mini Coopers and I thought it would be a fun surprise to have one waiting for us as we leave the reception. I'd prefer white or cream, but other colors will be considered.

The wedding is in late May in DC, and this would probably take less than an hour of your time. I'd want you to show up in your clean car 15 minutes before we're supposed to leave the reception (so 10:45 pm), wearing something nice (blazer and tie, black pants, or equivalent for female - we'd write this into the contract), and then take us straight to our condo in Arlington.

ALTERNATIVELY, if you'd be willing to lend us your car for the day (pick up that AM, returned by noon the Sunday), I'd pay $50 and it wouldn't require any effort on your part.

I'd like to choose someone and draw up a contract for this job by approx March 15. All responses will receive replies by February 15.

Does the decorating job come with a wash and a wax afterwards?

4 adults in a Mini doesn't work...been there done that burned the t-shirt. 3 adults, as long as the passenger isn't tall, is fine.

Sure it does, I've gotten 4 adults all between 5'6 and 6'1 in the MINI without a problem... And all were comfortable for the ride...

Of course if one of those adults was wearing a puffy wedding dress, it would be a different story...

For newlyweds this seems somehow more appropriate!

I believe this was made out of the leftover sections from the limo build...

But anyways............can anyone help these folks with a car? We don't know what the wedding dress looks like. I got married in basically a plain old white dress with a wreath of flowers thing in my hair. We rented a very old Rolls for the occasion. I can tell you that the back seat of that thing was no bigger than the MINIs.

Gosh, this sounds like fun! I'm up in Philly too. Scarlett is a CR/W 05 Cooper.

Aren't there any MINI's in DC willing to step up to the plate?

Actually James and I contacted this young lady back in March and offer her the choice of one of our MINIs. She , however, never contacted me back until yesterday quite disperate because she needs the MINI in a few days. P

While I had loved to help her out - just for fun and to show off my Little One - I made other arrangements for Memorial Day Week end.

I hope she organizes her married life a bit better than her wedding transportation.

Here's a thought..

Groom assists the lovely bride as she settles into the passenger seat. Groom and photographer may then circle around the car, enter from driver's side, and driver will enter last.

I'm tempted to help out with this. But they'll need to cover my dry cleaning if I wear anything nice, plus gas. Never mind the fact that I'm the driver, and can't get suitably toasted (never face a wedding sober, especially your own!).

I'll drop her a line, just the same. I can prolly get the ride pretty clean before then..

Cheers,
Matthew Z.

Try a MINI dealer

Perhaps she should contact a MINI dealer and try to arrange an extended test drive/loaner or the free publicity of providing her a MINI for the wedding.
