Refrigerated coolers!

Hey all, want to put that rear power socket to use? I just went to my local Alexandria, VA Target store, and found that they are having a closeout sale on little refrigerated coolers! Granted, it's only the 16-can capacity models, but these fit wonderfully in the back of the MINI with the rear seats up! These things were selling for around $80-$100, but they're going now for $30! Get while the gettin's good!

-Paul!

(PS-Mike, I'm not sure which is the best forum to put this, or even if I'm being 'naughty' by posting this in the first place! Please move/delete as necessary! Thanks! )

I'll slap you around later

As for the coolers, we picked up two a few weeks ago. I think they've been on clearance at Target for almost a month.

Plus we got one cooler as a prize for the scavenger hunt... But if more people don't come to the scavenger hunt it may become a raffle prize at MOTD...

Dammit, my '03 doesn't have outlet but my '02 did . Doesn't mean I can't go out and buy one of those cool little refrigerators .

The cord is long enough that you could run it off the front outlet.

Yes, I can't wait to put mine to use on the way to the Dragon ---- but FYI, both of ours are BIGGER than yours and still fit in the boot.

Hugs,
PB

How funny - I just left Target a few minutes ago and saw one of these coolers there. I was going to post here to see if anybody has tried one.

Just an FYI on those...we got one of the 6 can versions for our trip from Ohio to New England last year and the floor of the Mini's boot gets warm enough on long trips to overwhelm its cooling abilities. When we put it on the folded down rear seat, it did much better, but it still doesn't create an icy cold beverage. It does quite well at keeping cold things cold, however.

Yeah it says on the box that it needs good ventalation or it might overheat.

They also recommend that you pre-chill it for 4 hours before use.

If someone has a Target trip scheduled this week, would they be so good as to pick one up for me. I have a major deadline at work this week -- hence the working all weekend and straight through next week -- and won't be able to go.

I plan to wire a switched power socket to the blank out spot in the back where one should be (I have an '03). Unless there is a retrofit kit, which last I heard there was not... but that was a while ago. Don't the newer cars have the rear power outlet back?

What size, there are two sizes left. One's a 16 and the other I think is 20 cans. Plus they have a coleman for about the same price, but it's light blue..

There is no retrofit kit. I have asked........heavy sigh.......too bad for us 03 owners. We are the only ones without it. It was the only year.

If you do get something wired to your blank out spot, please PM me how you did it so I can get my hubby to set up my car.

Another heads up regarding these coolers

My wife and I bought one for camping with our Subaru...which worked great...however; Is always on...that is it is always pulling juice from the socket even with vehicle switched off. We got too nervous about a possible dead battery and ended up unplugging and buying ice anyway .

However the cooler does work great for motoring (keeps cool not cold) and for back deck parties with (usually) provided ac converter.

Jen:
If your hubby can't get power in the boot -- perhaps he can tile it? Or hang some drywall back there????

Ok -- so I'm sick today and this seemed funny to me

Hugs,
