Clay Buster's Corner
sounds like fun! can't make it tonight (just saw this anyway) but I've been trying to go to the Maryland Small Arms Range in Upper Marlboro for a while now. You can also rent handguns there if you don't own one. however, shooting clay targets sounds like more fun!
Thanks for organizing this Chris!
We had a great time.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the skeet lessons turned out to be a sporting clays class.
Our instructor, Rhys (rhymes with geese) had everyone breaking clays in no time. We continued to shoot until we ran out of targets and it got dark.
Afterward, Chris led a mini MINI run to Five Guys for dinner.
We also had to say goodbye to Matthew (hvMINIwltrvl) since he leaves tomorrow for Greece where he will be stationed for 3 years.Good luck!

Yeah .......
It was fun and what a great experience.
I really had a good time and have learnt a lot from the class. Rhys, Our instructor, was really awesome as well. He managed to make all of us smoked most of the clays.
Clay sporting is more fun than I thought.
Thanks to everyone who came to join the event. You're awesome.
Looking forward to the next time.
The event ended with a casual dinner at Five Guys.
What a great day, good weather, awesome experience and great companies.
Here are some snapshots from the class:

Bill (Wolf617) was showing us how to set up the stance correctly.

Here is Ed (Hypnohealer), attempting to make 6 out of 6.

During the class ....... waiting for the turn to shoot clays.

And Larry (PlayPlay) in action ......

And good luck, Mathew. We're looking forward to get together again when you come back.

I had a really fun time! I'm glad I have a shortage of cash cuz I would totally buy into this
Chris, you can still try to convince me to buy a shotgun lol who knows what may happen...
Matthew, I had no idea you were leaving tomorrow! I wish you the best of luck....I am very jealous! Hope to see you stateside again soon with your Mini

Oh no, I won't try to convince you, don't worry.
Btw, the one that you used today called, Beretta competition, 687 Silver Pigeon III, 32".
So how did everyone enjoy the sporting clays? I started doing this when my company had an event a couple of years ago.
Any sore shoulders from forgetting to set the stock properly and getting alittle kick back
Last time I went I shot over 100 rounds and I was pretty darn sore.
Hopefully we can get a gathering at Bull Run in the near future.

Not quite sure yet, Leona and I are supposed to go to a friend's wedding this weekend (Its also our wedding anniversary) and then I head to Utah/Nevada on Tuesday morning until the 12th. All those days and no MINI to drive !
We might try to come up with something on the day (Mon) at Loch Raven. Something like a picnic and a couple rounds of skeet.

I have gone to a place call Pintail Point a couple of times and it is on the Eastern Shore. Really nice setup and they even have golf carts you can rent. Here is the link http://www.pintailpoint.com/

PG T&S's got golf cart as well. Actually, I was trying to ask them if we could use our MINI instead of the cart.
Today I had the pleasure of watching as Rhys took 4 never-handled-a-gun-before photographers from Maxicooper's staff and turned them into clay busting machines.
It was fun seeing the transition from nervous novices into enthusiastic, "my turn!" shooters. Everyone (1 girl, 3 guys) was all smiles by the end of the day.
Not to be outdone, Chris's son had some special instruction from Rhys. With a tiny, little break open single barrel shotgun and an even tinier .410 shotshell, young Master Maxicooper SMASHED his first ever clay target!!!
There's definitely major potential there! Besides the shooting skill, he also demonstrated a very safe gun handling attitude.
Later, as we sat and ate while watching the skeet and trap shooters, the conversation turned to " I wanna try that." and "That looks like fun."
It's infectious!

We had a really good time.
After successfully smashed the first clay with his first shot, my son was hooked.
And wolf617 was right, not only he's learnt about another kind of sport, but he's also shown a well responsible of a "safe fire-arm handling" as well. I'm so proud of him.
