Clay Buster's Corner

Wow.... it was fun having a chance to try skeet shooting at Loch Raven last week. Thanks to Bill (wolf617) for the fun experience.

I don't have experience with shotguns, other than shooting once or twice when I was really young.

Shooting flying clays was much more fun than I thought. Good things, I was able to hit couple of flying clays.

And I'd love to go again, hmm ...........

This time I will do it the right way.

Being a newbies (like me) or for the one who would like to try the sports, the right way.
Please join us for an introductory group lesson at Prince George's County Trap & Skeet Center, Glenn Dale, Md 20769

Introductory group lessons start with gun safety. Then it's on to the anatomy of the weapon and the rules of the game.
In short order, adjust the gun against your shoulder and cheekbone, shift your focus to the target and shoot at its leading edge.
After a practice round with an unloaded gun -- including a helpful sound effect -- you can aim and fire for real.

Introductory Class is great to introduce friends or family to shooting in a safe, comfortable and fun way.
Different sizes and types of shotguns will be brought out to allow the beginner to try shooting with a gun that is matched to their physique and size.

The class is also a great way to get outdoors and do something new and different. Class is for any shooter over age 14.
Our instructor, a certified instructor NSCA level 3 (highest level) ,is said to be one of the best in the area.

Please find the information:

When: Tuesday, Aug 26th @ 6pm
Location: Prince George's County Trap & Skeet Center
Cost: $35/person

The fee includes the above lessons, guns rental, protection gears, ammo's and some refreshment. WOW.
and It will be a private class just for us.

Please have your name on the rsvp list, if interested asap or by this Friday (Aug 22nd) at the latest.

It would be fun if we could have 7 or 8 together (10 is the maximum).

The facily is also great, there are places for non-shooter to hang out and watch.

Well, if Maxi can, maybe MINI can, too?

Can't wait!

D-Unit Aug 19, 2008 05:29 AM

This. Is. Awesome.

I never thought we would do this in the MINI club.

I like the club, and I like guns. This should be an interesting experience.

Wish I could join you but the logistics of getting to PG County by 6 during rush hour would be tuff. I sure the class would be helpful even though I have shot hundreds of rounds with my shootgun already. I mainly shoot sporting clays so skeet would probably be challenging.

See ya at a future event, Brian

Maxicooper Aug 19, 2008 02:40 PM

Yeah, most likely the next outing will be at Bull Run in Va. It will be easier for you to join.

My mom won't let me go.
She said that I'd put my eye out.:eek2:

Please goto post #36 for an updated.

It is "Benelli" after all.

Benelli Ultra Light.

Nothing like an Over/Under for sporting clays.

This is Remington Spartan SPR310 Sporting shotgun I ended up buying. Great shotgun for the price and it is pretty well made. It actually is a Russian made Baikel that Remington imports.

Beautiful.

I was looking at O/U as welll. but the one that I like was out of my range at the moment (pricewise). I will have to wait until later on, may be next year.

Maxicooper Aug 20, 2008 09:42 AM

And btw, during the class, we don't have to worry if we don't have any gear.

They will provide us all equipments we would need.

If interested, please don't forget to have your name on the list.

Everything is already set.

Just show up. Actually, I will be there a little early, like 5.30pm or so.

You can also bring friends along. There is some nice area that they can hang out and watch us having fun.

I'm bringing my nephew along so that I can still get home after my eyes have been put out.

Mom said that was okay.

I shot skeet on several occasions with a guy that used that model. He put me and my Beretta to shame. There's truth to the phrase,"It's not the arrow; it's the Indian."

I have a Baikal/Spartan/ Remington 453 autoloader that I like a lot.

In fact, Chris said that he liked that better than the Beretta 391 rental that he used. The recoil systems on the 391's make them sound like pogo sticks.

Brian,

On your recommendation I bought the last one of these they had at ****'s, Fair Lakes, last night:thumbsup: . Can't wait to try it out.

Brian0758 Aug 21, 2008 02:32 PM

Hey Tom congratulations! I am sure you will like the Spartan. It is a little stiff to open at first but with time it is pretty smooth. We need to hit Bull Run after work or early on a Sat/Sun. I will send you a PM about the chokes I have.

B.

I'm not sure what you mean. But if you're talking about the clay machine, you don't need to load it yourself. It's pre-load and the only thing you'll have to do is push the right button.

Will you be joining us on Tuesday?

tomg47 Aug 21, 2008 03:23 PM

Maxicooper, unfortunately I start business travel that day:sad: . Maybe next time.

Matoskah Aug 21, 2008 03:41 PM

MINI's and shooting clays ( any kind ) are two of my very favorite things. Unfortunately I'm a bit far away to join you or I would jump at this chance. I know you will enjoy it.
