Looking for car insurance in DC

I need to switch my insurance provider to someone down here in DC since I have recently graduated from college. Just wondering if anyone has any advice on where to look. I'm already gotten quotes from Progressive and Liberty Mutual (using their BMW/MINI discount) and will be calling Geico, AllState, AIG, and Statefarm to get others. Any other insurance co's I should be looking at?

Thanks!

I am a DC insurance agent representing Traveler's, Hartford, Progressive, and Fireman's Fund. You probably have already found out the DC auto insurance is expensive. As important as the price is the coverage you choose. Make sure you have sufficient limits of liability. State minimum limits of $25,000/$50,000/$10,000 does not get it done any more. I would recommend you purchase the highest limits you can afford. $250,000/$500,000/$100,00 or $500,000 combined single limit is about the highest most companies sell.

Also look at your deductible and choose the highest deductible that save the a sufficent amount of money. You should not expect an accident more the once every 3 years. If you have more that 1 every three years, your insurance will get more expensive.

Finally and I think most importantly, purchase both the underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage to the same limits as your liability limits (another reason to purchase higher limits). In DC underinsured (have insurance but not as much as you do) and uninsured (have no insurance) are two separate coverage's in DC. Uninsured/Underinsured motorist coverage provides coverage not only in your car, but as a pedstrian, bicyclist, or in another car. You just have to be hit by a car, you do not have to be in your car.

DC is having such a problem with pedstrian v. auto injuries they are looking into additional laws to assit with the problem.

Before i got my MINI, my Honda was insured through Geico. When the time came to get insurance for the new MINI, i checked prices with Geico and actually found better rates at Progressive, which is who i've been using since i got my MINI back in March.
