Canadian GP Meet?

Is anyone here into F1? I'm thinking since Canada is at a more convenient time for us here in the US, we should have a get together and watch the race. Maybe a run or Install party afterward? No set plans yet, just a feeler.

when is the Canadian race? You're all welcome to come here... No decent roads around here for a run, but I have a garage and driveway if installs were to be done.

Big time into F1... Never miss it! Would be fun to do, Sat quali and Sun race are each at 1:00 eastern.

I can be a 'back up site', or host a future one.

I'm really hoping for one in Hi Def soon. I keep hoping that since Speed and Fox are Hi Def that we might get the Canadian in HD. They mention on Speed that the host country provides the cameras and direction...

I might pop in. Just getting interested in F1. Actually, I would have liked to goto Montreal had I been turned on to it sooner.

Its a must go, there is nothing and I mean nothing ! like an F1 race. During practice my bro' and I got down by the end of the main straight (Canada) just as they go into the chicane. You could not believe your eyes to see these cars go from 200 mph down to 50mph in just around 200 feet ! At this point they were literally flat out in 7th, V-10 screaming at 20,000 revs, off the gas, slam the brakes and take the corner......AMAZING !

You could also see why the lead cars were faster, Ferrari, Mclaren and Williams BMW were super solid under braking. I recall the BAR and Jorden Hondas rear ends looking very nervous when they jumped on the binders ! The guys in the back really drive their butts off with the slower ill handling cars.

The difference between the top three cars to the last place car is staggering even though they are only 1 to 1-1/2 seconds apart on times. Imagine a speedbike and a Harley. As I recall the announcer said that in the upcoming CART race the cars were like 3 seconds slower around the same track, they must look like they're crawling !

Sounds awesome Spitfire...I really started to appreciate things more just after one weekend sessions with the SCCA. After that, I watched Monaco and was mesmerized as to how they were taking turns, etc. I can totally appreciate how car and driver quality can make a world of difference even though its measured in split seconds!

Has anyone ponied up a location? I'm open to hosting (I have a 37" 720p/1080i flat panel and HD cable. I'm kind of short on chairs, but I'm willing to host depending on how many people? Also - it's in Manassas for those who care....

Well I did but haven't had much interest. Maybe there'll be some last minute though the baords are quite on the weekend. Since we're fairly far apart why don't we both offer?

For those who haven't been here for my cookout, I'm about 10 minutes south of the Beltway on Rt 1, (though it's better to come down the GW parkway, enjoy the river view and avoid the crazys).

I've got a 50" HD but even though Fox is HD I understand the broadcast will still be SD 4:3. With the heat forecast I know I WON"T be working on the boat or any outdoor projects so I'll watch the race live.

So folks, let us know, who wants to take Christina-JCW and I up on our respective offers?

I would host but we are broke college kids and our seating is limited to 3 patio chairs and a 20" TV haha. If either you two are willing to host, I'll be there! Im in Falls Church.

So how about a list of who's interested:

Either Mark or I are willing to host. Having never been to Mark's place - I would assume that he has substantially more seating area for a get-together than I do. I can probably cover 6 people total, 8 if we push it.

It would be great if we could get 6 people. This was too short of notice. I'll start planning for GP France soon.....

Depending on how I feel tomorrow , count me as a maybe. I have a wedding to go to this afternoon and a party at my bro's house. Will see how well I behave since I can walk/stumble to my house from my brother's.

I'll drink and walk , but not drink and drive.

Keep me posted and I will check with you all in the morning

Well, 6-8 is probably all that can sit and see the TV without getting crowded, though I've got 6-8 more chairs beyoond that too. And we could spill over to the Living room which will seat about the same and has a 36". But doesn't sound like we're looking at a big crowd anyway.
